Johnson's quote about the OC from that article:

Johnson said he will continue to call offensive plays in Chicago after three seasons as Detroit's offensive coordinator. He prioritized finding a coach whose largest responsibility will be helping him game plan for each week's opponent.

"It's going to be critical for me to find somebody that can organize and structure and set the table, particularly early in the week," Johnson said Wednesday at his introductory news conference. "I have been around a number of guys that have called plays in the past and I've seen the potential pitfalls that could arise as you're approaching the entire football team and you can't get to watching as much tape early in the week as you possibly could.

"The offensive coordinator position is going to have to be somebody that not only I trust but we'll be extremely detail oriented, organized and structured to set the table and also be willing to work late nights."

Doyle didn’t even play college football. Maybe he is the new Pete Carmichael. Dont really know what to think about this.
Yep. Played baseball at Iowa Western (?) and gave it up upon transferring to Iowa, where his dad, Chris, was the head of strength & conditioning, working most closely with the FB program. His younger brother, Dylan, transferred to Baylor after his dad was fired.

I imagine Declan got the student coaching gig because of his pop’s connection to the FB program.

No one is hand wringing. We're asking the question of why a young first time head coach didn't hire someone with a longer more experienced resume to provide adequate balance to the staff.
A retread?

Think you are forgetting Allen was with Payton same time as Roushar so coached together for 8 years.

That is what I meant by they would have been on staff together - under Sean Payton.

It's interesting to me that Roushar did not stay as the OL coach with the Saints with Allen as the HC. It looks like he might have for a year and then decided to stay in town at Tulane? I wonder what the dynamic was there that caused that change. Makes me wonder if too if Johnson can really hire him if he is happy staying in the New Orleans area at Tulane.

Yeah, I just checked his wiki - Dan Roushar is 64. I think he is probably a good OL coach, but I don't think it is any sort of slam dunk that he will be willing to move up north at this point in his life if he has lived in New Orleans for the past 12 years.

on edit: Also looking at his wiki, it looks like Dennis Allen moved him over to be "run game coordinator and TE coach" when he took over and brought in Doug Marrone as the OL coach. So, imo, it looks like there was some oddities going on there. Not sure if Dennis Allen being on Johnson's staff would help or hurt that sales pitch.

OL cocahes tend to also serve as RGC so nothing crazy there. Probably the case he didnt do well in the role and so Allen let him go because had Marrone as OL coach. Marrone also having previous HC experience with Bills
