The Denver Nuggets are holding firm to seeking a first round pick in exchange for Arron Afflalo in a trade.

There have not been any takers so far, but interest has been high for Afflalo.

Teams don’t want to relinquish a first rounder for a player that might walk on them at the end of the season. Afflalo has a player option for the final year of his contract.

A similar snag held up Afflalo from being traded to the Charlotte Hornets.

we should have been on this yesterday

The problem is, who do you trade to make the salaries match?

There's your trade for Taj. The only thing that works is Taj and the Bulls 1st. I doubt the Bulls would do that, especially w/o an extension. Then there's Denver, they may not a player back if their in dumping mode, especially since they're fairly set at PF.

you could also do Dunleavy+filler

but that no trade clause on Hinrich's contract really hurts

we always seem to get shafted by the rules while every other team manages to pull off the moves they need

Kirk doesn't have a no trade clause, he has a 15% trade kicker that would add $838K if he's traded. Dunn, Kirk and the Bulls 1st works on the trade machine. It still takes two to tango, but Dunn's expiring contract, and Kirk playing the same position as Affalo seems to fit.

This would push Jimmy to the SF which I don't like, but Snell's emergence helps. Also, Imo, McD is the future version of Dunn. Sounds like this would be the logical trade.

He technically has some sort of Bird Rights no trade clause. I guess he also has a trade kicker, but at that number, it's pretty negligible. That being said, I doubt Hinrich would enact the no trade clause he has. It's not like he'll be getting more money via those Bird Rights anyway at this stage of his career.

I really doubt Hinrich would use that no trade clause...unless he really dislikes the state of Colorado.

Yes, but he won't contribute this year, which is what people are looking for, especially since the window for this team reaching the Finals... this may be it this year.

he wants to be in Illinois where his wife/kids/home are

can't see him wanting to move them out to Denver for the rest of the season or leave them behind

He's not going to move his whole family out for 3 months of basketball in Denver. He was fine when he was in Washington/Atlanta. His family didn't leave while he was gone. I doubt this scenario would be any different.

he didn't have a choice but to play for those teams or forfeit his contract

this time he has a choice and i see him holding up any deal

i don't think the FO will even put him in that position

if they did they would certainty get the ok beforehand which i don't think he would give

I've joined the "I'm over Kirk Hinrich" crowd. I want him regulated to 3rd PG.
