that is the oldest comeback and only comeback cubs fans have to say to sox fans. jealous? please

what the cubs have on us:
ratings
Old historic stadium
hot chicks
great bar scene(wrigleyville)
national attention (well geez I wonder why) old stadium + historic drought= attention
attendance (tourists, real fans, the trendy fans) either way, high attendance

What I got:
I got to experience something I probably wont get to see again in my mid 20's and that is my favorite baseball team winning the world series. If you want to add 100 more things to that list of what the cubs have on us, go for it. a WORLD SERIES CHAMPIONSHIP >>>> than anything that can go on that list. if you find something > than a world series championship than you arent a baseball fan.so jealous? nope. he makes a very general comment.

If I may be so bold...and keeping in mind I didn't watch the video because I felt like it'd be just mindless posturing anyway...

Why does it matter if the Cubs are better than the White Sox? Cubs fans should try to be better than all of the other 29 teams in the league, not just the White Sox. The White Sox only matter for six games out of the season. They haven't mattered to the Cubs since the 1906 World Series otherwise. This posturing and jealousy is useless.

Who cares if Wrigley sells out more than the Cell? The Sox are closer to contention than the Cubs are. Heck, I'm not even disappointed right now if the Cubs lose, I just want the higher draft pick. It's not worth my energy to care about a silly mini-rivalry with a stupid trophy that looks like Fallopian tubes that goes to the "winner"...

And yes, the Sox have the 2005 World Series. I'd rather have that than the dump of a ballpark and all the sellouts.

Signed,

Cubs fan with priorities

damn your a good poster! you know what you want, and you dont care about the rest...i love it! winning is all that matters.

these teams arent even rivals, i think the only time cubs and sox fans should get into it is if they ever met in the WS. different divisions, different league....it should be just another game.

For me this whole series is just another series, i dont get extra mad or extra happy depending on the outcome because of the cubs. i was mad at game 1, why? because we blew a lead and could have been 3.5 back instead of 4.5.

It doesn't just stop with White Sox, it goes to the Brewers and Cardinals too. I see Cubs fans say weird shit like "Cards suck" or "Brewers suck" and I'm just like, "dude, look at the standings"...I get that sports are fun and it's great to support your team, but a modicum of reality and logic never killed anyone.

I'd also be in favor of reopening that Wojo article on Ricketts' ownership of the Cubs, as I think that was a useful discussion that could be had. Even if he's only been owner for a year and a half and is handcuffed by his debt load or whatever, there are many things he could've done as owner to at least improve the future outlook of the franchise.

(not a mod)

so true. what sucks is that we want a winner so bad out of the teams we cheer for and when they suck, or under perform or whatever the case may be we feel like shit. chicago sports for being the 3rd market really pisses me off.

real cub fans deserve a winner IMO.

I don't like saying "real" Cubs fans though. They come in different flavors. You either support the team or you don't. Just an opinion though.

im talking about the ones that go to games to watch the games, not to drink and get laid. they dont have to know stats, or players etc, but they go to the games because they enjoy watching the cubs play baseball is what i meant

Eh to me a WS isn't very important. A WS means very little in the grand scheme of things. I would rather have a consistent winner than one WS title. A WS only really means anything for a season or two. Had we won the WS in 2003 or 2008 for that matter would make me feel no differently about this team.

So yes I would take the atmosphere of Wrigley, Wrigley itself, the hot girls, the bars, the sellouts and all of that over a single WS victory. In a heart beat.

I would rather have a run like the Atlanta Braves from 1996 to 2005 or the Oakland A's from 1999 to 2006 than have a WS like a team like the Florida Marlins and make the playoffs twice in 19 years and win the world series twice.

Would a WS be nice? Absolutely but its a crap shoot, and would rather just have a consistently winning team.

I think the consistently winning team can get itself to the point where they'd actually win a pennant here or there and also luck into a championship. The problem with the Cubs is that they don't win consistently. No win consistently = no playoffs = no World Series.

So yeah, I'm cool with a consistent winner too. But I don't care if they play in Wrigley Field, in some sandlot next to my house, or on New Wrigley Fortress on an Island near Navy Pier. The Cubs have NEVER WON A WORLD SERIES AT WRIGLEY FIELD. Wrigley < winning.

If they are winning then I agree.

But if my choice is being like the Marlins or having Wrigley and all of its glory I will take Wrigley every time.

If its between being a dynasty like the Braves without a WS (aside from that first one) or Wrigley then I will take being the Braves without Wrigley.

I just don't think ONE WS title and then mediocrity because you won it is worth it to me.

So you would rather have one WS and no more playoff appearances like the Marlins over making the playoffs for ten straight years and winning no WS?

I think the Cubs could actually have the best of both worlds. The difference between the Cubs and the Marlins is that the Marlins (sort of like Tampa Bay) has a reload/contend plan where they know that they can't afford to keep their best players forever, so they have to draft very well and develop their players well until they can build a winning nucleus. Then they splurge on a couple good free agents and make a run (1997 and 2003).

The Cubs allegedly have more resources. They should be doing the Yankees/Red Sox plan. The Ricketts have always said they want to do what the Red Sox are doing, except they're not. There is no reason why the richest team in the division shouldn't dominate it all the time. The fact is, though, that the nucleus is weak and they need some time to rebuild, but with superior resources, there's no reason not to believe that if they find a few extra brain cells, they won't be able to contend in the next few years. It won't be immediate, but it can happen.

And yes, I'd rather have the World Series, because then the Ricketts can get some goodwill and revenues to spruce up Wrigley Field or just build a new one.
