I think the winning will bring all the boys/girls to the yard :D Especially if they do win a World Series. Which in a large market should ----> more money ----> more winning. At least that's the hope.

If the Cubs win the World Series, I think the city of Chicago would literally erupt in flames from all the celebrations :D

1 World Series > than zero world series.

Someone who says they would rather have the girls, and wrigleyville with competing every year without the titles is plain stupid. typical to fall back on that since your team hasnt won in 100+ years.

What does the 2005 world series have to do with 2011? That's what I don't get.

anything less than a championship is failure. as a fan all you want is a championship, if you dont and only care about the ivy and wrigley and being competitive than you have low standards. anyone that would take being competitive for 10 years with no world series over winning 1 world series and crapping the 9 other seasons is NOT a fan and seriously needs to look in the mirror, or they just say stupid shit like that for reaction hell it could be someone who likes to be that guy who is a "creative thinker" because he wants to sound philosophical and smart.

I agree that it is better to have 1 championship in ten years than having none in ten years, but I don't know how you guarantee that championship. The philosophy is that to win the World Series you first have to make the playoffs and that the bigger problem than the Cubs choking 6 straight playoffs games is that they have only made the playoffs 6 times in the past 65 years.

Yeah, we definitely need to make the playoffs more consistently to get more chances to win that World Series. That much we all agree on, methinks.

Where do you get guaranteeing a championship stuff at? There's no formula that guarantees a title....

Its all building a team that will year in and year out be competitive.

One step at a time.

And there isn't much I wouldn't give to see that happen. If tearing down Wrigley meant that the Cubs would win the World Series than I would be the first one there. However, that won't guarantee a World Series so why can't have the historic field and a winning team?

That's my line...

I was just responding to what I thought was DewsSox point that someone was arguing that they would rather have a competitive team than one championship.

I know...thats what I think too, but I do want a World Series more than anything. Same thing with my other teams, championship or bust. Not saying the Cubs should spend a load of money like they did in 07, but I want them to spend wise money, while cheaply developing their own players. It seems like it's always brought up how a title isn't guaranteed.

There's all kinds of articles out there that talk about Wrigley Field sapping the homefield advantage from the Cubs, both facilities-wise and economically. I like Wrigley too, but only when I'm at my seat looking at the field of play. They need to turn it into a museum.

I think there are things that could be done to fix some of those problems. However, whether the Cubs will be able to do them is another thing, and perhaps Wrigley does need to become a museum for the Cubs to win. I think the baseball decisions that have been made has a far larger effect on the team.

I think aside from the facilities is just the way the wind blows. It blows in, you need a slap-hitting team with gap power. It blows out, suddenly you need a long-ball team. And the pitchers have to deal with that as well. So it's difficult to build a team for Wrigley, especially if the braintrust doesn't have the brains.

It'd be easy to say "let's just construct our roster such that each lineup spot is a good defender who gets on a base a lot while our pitchers get lots of strikeouts and keep the ball on the ground" but we all know that's impossible.

Playing more than half their home games during the day doesn't help the Cubs either.

Probably not, but it's "tradition" and the neighborhood/city has ordinances in place to limit the number of night games they're allowed to play. Didn't think a city could hold a major league franchise hostage like that, did ya?

While I agree that it doesn't help the Cubs, I don't think it really hurts them that bad either. The Cubs had a string of leading baseball in strikeouts for nearly a decade, and if you build a team that gets on base at a high clip I will take my chances no matter what my homefield is.

It wouldn't hurt them if they built the team smarter. The thing is that to build this team, you either need to A) be incredibly lucky in the draft or B) have a Yankees-sized payroll so you can buy up all the OBP freaks and FIP-masters.

And as an addition, you need to also hope that the free agents you covet are available at the right time, which is why I've been hoping that they save the money for 2013's offseason especially if they can't sign Fielder.
