My favorite teams
  1. Chicago Cubs
  1. Minnesota United FC
  1. Chicago Bulls
  1. Chicago Bears
  1. Chicago Blackhawks
  1. Notre Dame Fighting Irish
I knew it held them hostage. It's unfortunate a big market team like the Cubs is forced to play at a National Landmark during the day, with no real room for expansion. The day game thing is one, but the facilities and locker rooms I'm sure can be upgraded, along with the addition of an indoor batting cage.

It wouldn't hurt them if they built the team smarter. The thing is that to build this team, you either need to A) be incredibly lucky in the draft or B) have a Yankees-sized payroll so you can buy up all the OBP freaks and FIP-masters.

I don't think you have to be incredibly lucky or have a Yankees-sized payroll. I think if you have a payroll in the 130-140 million range you can buy positions of need and combine that with smart drafting/international signings you can be competitive for a very long time. I think the skills to win baseball games remain pretty much the same whether the wind is blowing in or out. Cubs pitchers for years were an incredibly dominant force in baseball and were on days when the wind was blowing out. The problem was that are offense was terrible, and some better, not lucky, moves could have made this a much better team at the time. The offense has gotten better, though they still don't walk enough, but the pitching has gone from the strength of the team to weakness.

I agree that it is better to have 1 championship in ten years than having none in ten years, but I don't know how you guarantee that championship. The philosophy is that to win the World Series you first have to make the playoffs and that the bigger problem than the Cubs choking 6 straight playoffs games is that they have only made the playoffs 6 times in the past 65 years.

it is stemming from the video of sox fans being jealous with me stating I would rather have a championship than all the cubbie things that are great.

Okay I would agree with that. I would rather have a championship than everything else associated with Cubdom.

I'd rather make the playoffs year in year out than have the traditions as well.

But I would take the atmosphere and neighborhood over winning one and not making the playoffs again. Ala the Florida Marlins.

I'd rather be set up to win multiple WS than fluke into one WS and not be relevant again for a decade.

Exactly I want to put the best team together that can win year and year out. If this team makes the playoffs again and again, eventually you will get a World Series (ask the Braves about that one).

That's basically what I said. I want to be the Braves or early decade As not the Marlins

There's no reason that two teams in the 3rd largest market in the country can't be competitive year-in and year-out. It's horse shit that they don't compete every year.
