Unless you have specific body comp goals all that really matters is calories and exercise.

All these cleanses, clean eating, paleo, etc bullshit is fad dieting with zero science or logic behind it.

Just eat less calories. Exercise. If you have specific body composition goals then start worrying about macros etc. Don't over think it and complicate it.

Agree FT. If you're a plump mofo, and your only concern is to cut fat off, eat less than you have been. Consuming less calories = more naturally burnt calories through your normal, daily routine. It is really that simple. Just takes some self discipline.

As soon as you move towards the "I don't want to JUST lose weight, i also want to build muscle/become more healthy" mentality, that's when the specific diets and workout plans become much more meaningful.

My bloodwork says my diet is improving my health, rather dramatically. Is that science?

For the record I've run across plenty of unhealthy muscle maniacs.

True science involves microscopes, test tubes, beakers, and rats you can experiment on. I hope that answers your question.

Yes bacon too....

There was an omelet on Man vs Food for a challenge which had Chili, Salsa, Sour Cream, and Cheese and my first thought was "Me want" and my second thought was "I would ask them to add bacon".

Beth's Cafe I believe outside of Seattle Washington. Potatoes and four slices of toast. Keep the sour cream for me and add bacon to replace. I could do the dozen omelet for sure.

On a diet note.... I cut soda out of my diet almost entirely.

Been about 9 days since I had soda.... I have to remind myself to go for water at home or when I grab food out somewhere I have to remember to order a water or get no drink and get water at home.

Unfortunately I think I unconsciously just started adding the sugar back in via other things.... I need to try to cut down my overall sugar intake.

So far in 2015, my sugar intake has been extraordinarily low. Also, if I had to guess, 8.5 days into the new year and I've eaten less than 125 grams of carbs.

EDIT: My apologies. My net carbs eaten is probably less than 125 grams. I'm doing:

carbs - all fiber = net carbs

So, if you're doing that, is there anything you're doing to make your food less ... bland, for lack of a better term?

Been doing a similar approach to cutting a lot of the bad carbs out of my diet, and I'm trying to find more and more ways to eat some good, healthy food without having to introduce those bad carbs back into the mix.

Honestly, there are a lot of good foods out there that are low carb that taste good. I had a balsamic vinegratte last night on a salad that was awesome.

I've just been focusing mainly on eating meats and vegetables. Throw in some strawberries here and there if I need something a little sweeter, just not too much.

One day I'm gonna start picking up some spices/oils/whatever to add to chicken, pork, and other things just to give 'em a new twist.

If you're looking to avoid carbs, be careful about the vegetables you choose, and especially the strawberries.

That being said, it's not like eating vegetables or strawberries is necessarily a bad thing.

Yeah, you want to avoid sweet vegetables like strawberries.

Weak. I haven't had a carb in 6 years. And that's REAL carbs, not net carbs.

Not at all.

Broccoli is a pretty low-carb one. Think it's 2-3 net carbs per serving. Celery is another good one. And with a dab of ranch I'll eat celery all day long.

I was very surprised to see Ranch made the list of foods I could eat.

I had a college professor somewhere in our athletic training/kinesiology who suggest that the complete removal of carbs from a diet is a good way to die of kidney failure.

I'm not nearly disciplined enough to completely cut out all carbs, 'twas a joke. But I did not know that..

I wonder how quickly you could **** your kidneys up by cutting out all carbs and being shitfaced all the time.

Ya know what's the hardest food to avoid for me?

Pizza.

It's so fucking good and if you're trying to cut out carbs there's just no suitable replacement for it.

I've even made a few of the low-carb pizzas from scratch but they tasted awful.

Sounds like experiment time. Take one for the board.
