Sounds like experiment time. Take one for the board.

Seems pretty dangerous, and I'm just not the danger type. I'd rather do this experiment on a monkey or a child.

On a completely unrelated note, anyone got a monkey or a child I could borrow?

Ya know what's the hardest food to avoid for me?

Pizza.

It's so fucking good and if you're trying to cut out carbs there's just no suitable replacement for it.

I've even made a few of the low-carb pizzas from scratch but they tasted awful.
You know what? This is going to sound like some kind of Captain Obvious statement, but.....pizza is really fucking good. I mean like, really fucking good.

I'm on a diet called the autoimmune paleo diet. It wasn't for weight reasons. In fact, I was trying to gain weight and this diet has done the opposite. But, I feel better. The purpose of this diet it to eliminate all the foods that are known to cause inflammation and foods that people are generally sensitive to. Then after your symptoms improve, you can introduce one food at a time. If you have a reaction, then that food is off your plate for good. If you don't, you can safely have that foodd as part of your diet going forward. Some things that are never allowed for the rest of your life include processed foods, grains, and dairy. As of now, all I'm eating is vegetables, no more than 2 fruits a day, wild caught fish [mostly salmon and sardines], and chicken. All I drink is filtered water and homemade bone broth.

I thought this diet was full of shit when I first read about it.. But I thought it wouldn't hurt to try. Since I've been on it, I've experienced a lot less pain and swelling. In fact, before I started, I woke up daily with swollen, painful fingers. I've been on the diet for 4 months. I've woken up with painful, swollen fingers maybe 4-5 times. The change started 5 days after I started the diet.

Before this strict diet, I was only dairy and gluten free. That diet eliminated my acid reflux and helped with the pain a little.

I understand why people trash diets as a healing method... I used to be one of them. But actually seeing the changed myself has obviously made me change my mind. I still have symptoms, but I'm really hoping that the longer I go on, the better it will get. If not.... then ****. But I like the results so far.

I do agree that the "cleanse" diets are bullshit but a 12 second google search returns plenty of results that at least question the calorie in/out premise. If there were "zero science and logic" behind the quality eating diets there wouldn't be any questions about it

Fallacy. There are plenty of websites about 9/11 conspiracies. It doesn't make then scientifically or logically sound.

Calories in vs calories out is basic science(law of themrodynamics). We had this discussion here a year ago.
http://www.chicitysports.com/forum/showthread.php/45631-Does-anyone-here-quot-juice-quot

RS is a trainer and works in the nutrition field and is also a body builder/weight lifter.

There are lot of google results where stupid people question correct things. I'm glad the litmus test for if something is correct though is the amount of google hits against it. Good stuff there bruh.

The murky area with calories in vs calories out is when people don't understand that all calories aren't burned the same and processed by the body the same way. One calorie from milk doesn't burn the same as one calorie from a twinkie. People are notoriously bad at counting calories and understanding how they are burned off. Most studies that try and blow up the idea are controlled well.

Read stuff by Aragon.

For your average person simply having an idea of calories in vs calories out is good enough. For a body builder? No.

My bloodwork says my diet is improving my health, rather dramatically. Is that science?
Do you understand the difference between causation and correlation? We covered this in the juicing thread a long time ago.

Seriously, everyone here needs to spend a day reading articles and interviews by or involving Alan Aragon.

So eat some fkn pizza with chicken breast on it post workout when you can use those fast burning sugars to pop your insulin and shuttle that protein/nutrients into the cells.

What's the problem/issue?

You can work a couple large slices of pizza with added protein (chicken/tuna)into a smart macro plan and if you just had a decent sized shake (you can even add fiber) you can blunt the appetite explosion carbs like that will usually cause.

Someone explain to me why this would be deleterious to us in the middle of winter when no one should be looking to be all that uber lean outside professional BBers??

Alex talks only about fitting things into macros....

WHAT HAPPENS WHEN YOU ARE A FAT BASTARD AND CANNOT STICK TO YOUR MACROS.

That is the issue for most people worried about dieting...most people aren't 19 yr olds on BBing.com who are cutting from 188lbs to 175lbs to be an average size BRAH with abs. In fact, I have no idea why most of those manlets are even considering cutting.......it's really just a joke of a joke.

AGAIN,

Calorie in vs. Calorie out is correct, but everyone has known that for decades and yet we still have huge problems with weight in this country.

Why?

Because, and i'm still shocked no one wants to discuss this in this thread, APPETITE/Satiation are the key to staying within proper macros, and what you choose to eat DRAMATICALLY AFFECT APPETITE IN PEOPLE WHO TEND TO HAVE SERIOUS WEIGHT ISSUES.

If you don't have/never have had a real weight issue, you don't probably have an appetite issue, so like the Hodge Twins say, "EAT WHATEVER THE FK YOU WANT TO...."

Calorie in versus Calorie out for many people is like telling people on welfare getting rich is as easy as income in versus expenditures.

Sure, that's wonderful....now what?

The information presented is correct. The problem is people don't have self discipline. I would call that fat by choice.

Right, ok, now we still have a bunch of obese people and a public health crisis, so......

Choice or not, we need to deal with the cause of this explosion- namely refined carbs that for SOME OF THE POPULATION causes ravenous hunger in the amounts typically eaten in the American diet.

Calling people horrible slobs isn't working bro. We've been telling people to man up and eat less for 30 yrs now....how's that working out?

If someone chooses to overeat and eat things that are well documented to be unhealthy and live a shortened life, that's their choice. Is it ideal? No. But you can't force someone to eat less or to eat healthy.

That's basic 'Murica.

People need to take responsible for their choices. Everyone wants a quick fix. That's why stupid fad diets or cleanses are so en vogue and come and go. It's why people like Aragon have people set 6-12 months goals rather than 12 week goals.

People can also over eat on "healthy" foods. If you're eating 5,000 calories a day regardless of if it comes from salads or Big Macs you;re doing it wrong.

Holy ****, I couldn't imagine eating 5000 calories worth of salad. That's a shit ton of lettuce.

Ok, so step aside because you don't know how to help the situation.

A lot of people like myself do......and most of us have firsthand experience with how different foods affect our eating patterns DUE TO APPETITE AND SATIATION.

Look, at a certain point willpower just isn't going to work IF YOUR RAVENOUSLY HUNGRY all the time. If you don't have this response to processed/simple carbs, this isn't something you've probably experienced biochemically, so you have no idea if you could or could not man up and simply stick to some number of Kcals.

What you think about it is basically irrelevant to the discussion of diets.
