instead of making a work bench out of the door....thinking about making this for the wife.

This is actually just about done. Plan on finishing after the Bears game tomorrow. Doesn't look exactly like it, but the wife is happy w/ it..all that matters.

Once I get a career job and my own place I can do some projects. But for now, I'll stick to building empty Beer can towers when I'm drunk.

Please don't mix " learn to make flash powder" to the beer drinking...:beerbang:

I have been running a remodeling business for 18 years now. If anyone has any questions I'd be more than happy to answer them ( if I can).

I just offer it because I know a lot can be intimidating and it's all relatively simple and easy to do.

I try to do everything myself. floors, painting, plumbing, mechanic shit, car stuff etc etc. I'd just rather take a crack at anything because most "professionals" don't know what they're talking about.

And they charge too much. Kitchen sink was backing up a few months ago. I rented a power rodder but still wound up calling a plumber. The clog was 20 feet in and he bent the shit out of his own rodder line. That's the only time I'll call anyone, if I need special equipment or something major...like my roof I had 6 Mexicans on for 12 hours the other day. I'm too old for that shit anyways.

I may be asking some simple advice in the near future. Wife and I are about to close on a house, and the basement needs some work. She's giving me free-run of the basement for a while, so I'm gonna be looking at taking out walls (some will be load-bearing, gonna have to keep posts up, and would like to box those in w/ pillars), putting in a ceiling, doing some tile work (have access to a tile cutter), and some other stuff. down your alley?

Absolutely. I'm finishing a customers basement in Woodridge right now.

Shouldn't be any load bearing walls in your basement though. Should be columns and I beams or columns and TGI joists. So you shouldn't hav
E much to worry about with actual "walls"

Just PM me with any questions.

how does it look?

I'll post a pic when it's finished. It doesn't look quite as impressive as that pic, but for me and dad, it looks pretty good.

About to do some trim work in the basement, and I have a saw question. What angle on the miter saw do you suggest to cut the trim at? 45??

Yes. I cut it at a 45 degree angle, then cope the angle that's left with a coping saw.

Just YouTube " coping a 45 degree angle" and you'll get what I mean in about 30 seconds.

If your finished trim product is going to be painted, use a little white caulk in the finished cope, then but it up to the other piece, make your shit look tight.

You'll see some carpenters use a wet towel or rag to smooth the caulk. Just lick your finger and smooth it. Nothing works better than spit.

I'm staining and poly'ing the trim first, then cutting. Quick question though. One wall I have is 22 feet. Obviously I'd be going two 12' pieces on the bottom. Instead of just putting them together, or putting a stop up, can I join them together with cuts on the miter?? If so, wouldn't it be a cleaner look doing something other than 45?
