Where do you get your pallets?

One of the local building suppliers around here has two sets of pallets -- one is a pile they give away (where I got this from), and the other is a pile of pallets made from strong wood, or more intact than most pallets. You pay (minimally) for those...

I have trouble finding anyone who will just give them away. Most seem to have contracts to have them hauled away.

Find a ma'n'pa store that gets freight occasionally...and just ask. I had to search for a while before I found any. Some of the ones that have contracts to have them hauled away may be willing to part with some if you load it yourself.

Usually paint makes a deck look worse IMO. The natural look that stain or polyurethane give will last a lot longer, and it's easier to detect early rot, just in case. It's hard to get the paint off, and you did a very good job. Plus now when you drag chairs across it, the scratches wont be as noticeable a few years down the line. Deck paint is really a last resort to cover up flaws in the lumber.

Went to the lumber yard to find a cheap alternative for a bench that she found on pinterest. Gonna put an outdoor cushion on to to finish it off.

Yeah, that's what she had in mind I think. Simple, cheap, will hold up...

$35 for the blocks, the landscape timbers (which are cheaper than 4x4's, or we would've used those) and the paint. I think her grandma is going to make us an outdoor cushion. I like the muted blue on the red deck, personally.

Washer started making noise. It ate a belt on me last year, so I decided to just replace the motor, and convert it to direct drive.

Whoa nelly does this sucker spin now(and quietly). It also uses less power than the old motor, so I'm more than pleased. I don't think I can buy something like this at an appliance store, that's for sure.

I like the layout, but why did you choose the plastic coated metal barrier? Cost?

There were a few reasons, cost being one of them. Ease of install, likelihood of durability, and 'what the wife wanted' (paramount) also came into play.
