Shots of my fire pit. Had to follow code, but I like it. The pictures do not show that I proceeded to go down on the inside of the ring another 6-8" so that the fire can be a bit lower. Glad I did do that as the winds in my yard could easily assist in catching the surrounding grass on fire. I have since bought a swing away grill which I am hoping to install and test near the end of the week.

Overall a cheap project and a lot of bang for the buck (Total cost with grill less than $65)

Here's a shot of the pit dug down with the swing away grill. In the Grill Master's Thread I will be posting pics of my first open flame grilling experience.

Holy shit, you did exactly what I did. Set it up the same way (mine might be bigger by a bit), dug it out the same way. Hell, we even used the same color bricks. Mine is three high up though, and your grass looks much better than mine.

Thanks Prope. Hey, Menards has good deals.
I was going to build it higher, but then I saw how much a fire ring was and said keep it - for now.

I am thinking of taking out some more grass around it and put down some pavers for feet.

btw, the grass is a service that litterally made my like 30% weeded grass in only two years to this. If you want the place let me know.

I was lucky enough to get the blocks for free. So the whole thing was made with the price of of the landscape glue, high heat paint, and sand. All told $20.

I'll have to remember to bug you for that number next Spring. I want to dethatch and aerate in the fall.

My guy aerates, but speaks against detahtching. Says it does more harm to the roots of the healthy grass. Never heard of that. Talked with a professional landscaper (Call him Bossard lite) and he thinks the grass should be dethatched as well.

Few things I did over the weekend..

I've been building this thing over the last year a bit at a time. Motor is a Frankenstein I rebuilt with random parts I've accumulated over the years. Threw a turbo on it and rebuilt the backend. Everything else is built from scratch. Just got the enclosure back from powdercoat and sprayed the rest.

New tires for the "race car" (hasn't moved on its own power in too long)

Turned my baby eagle's 2 piece spring into a 32 piece..

About to stain my small deck for the first time. Bought a "power washer" attachment from home depot, big 5 gallon jug of stain/waterproofer, and a bottle of wood cleaner. I think I know what to do. Any tips?

Give it at least 48 hours to dry before staining

Matt,

Generator..it'll power 4-5 2500sq ft houses..

The big black thing is a fuel tank, then there's the motor/backend (big alternator) and the white thing is a sound/weather enclosure.

Need some woodworking advice.

I'm making a shadowbox large enough to house 5 Sam Adams beer glasses. I've got 1''x 4'' planks I'm attempting to attach to 1'' x 10'' planks...but I'm afraid of splitting the wood. I took a smaller piece and drilled a pilot hole the distance from the edge of the wood I'd need...but the wood split every time when I attempt to get a screw through it.

Tips?
