DJ Williams new deal in works

No, but I don't know why the Bears are resigning this bum either. DJ Williams is garbage, period, & yes he sucked before he was hurt too. I really think the Bears should have made a very wise choice to look at D. Jackson before the Colts signed him. So far it just looks like the same DC & crappy defenders being brought back that sucked horribly last year.

Well FA hasn't started yet so idk what you expect us to do.

At the right price, I say absolutely bring him back. Move Bostic as I still think he has what it takes to be good LB for us. Mix in Shea at times. I just feel that we are going to see various defensive fronts and the more depth we have the better. Plus it frees up another draft pick we can use on another position.

Way too much money.....

Do you want a good MIKE LB or do you want an affordable player that sucks? I just don't like the idea of signing a guy just because they're affordable. This defense needs to be strong up the middle at all three levels, & Williams is bad, he really is a shell of what he was in Denver. I almost hope we do draft another LB after the first round now, especially if the Bears do sign Bennett in FA.

Duh, do ya think so...No shit. If your going to spend money on any two positions on this defense, it had better the the 3 Technique & MIKE LB positions.

If they do bring DJ Williams back, I hope its as a backup to Bostic. I don't really see the point of adding a vet-minimum starter at MLB to a defense that is already one of the worst in the NFL.

I'm thinking Bostic at SAM, DJ at Mike and Lance at Will of course. Probably draft a Mike somewhere in rounds 2-4.

It's impossible to replace nearly all the defensive starters with high quality (read expensive) players. If they are stockpiling so so linebackers at vet minimum deals I don't see the harm in it. Then they can blow their wad on fixing the d line and shoring up the secondary this year.

Yep. Shea will get in where he fits in, probably competing with Bostic for the Sam spot. Mid round Mike who if he works out will probably take over the starting spot at some point.

DL and DB are far more important spots to attack with $ in FA.

I never understood why the Bears immediately went to wanting DJ back after the season ended. I didn't think he was anything special. He definitely wasn't good enough that the Bears can't survive without him coming back. And even if he does come back, you better have a good backup ready, because he's almost a lock to NOT play 16 games. He's only played 13 of the last 32 possible games due to injury and suspension. He missed most of camp last year. He missed 2/3 of the season. Not sure how the Bears saw enough in 6 games to make this guy a priority.

I'd rather play similar money for Erin Henderson, his DUIs and the better chance he'll play more games even if he gets suspended for 1-2 weeks. Or play a little more for a younger guy like Joe Mays or somebody that could possibly have a future beyond 2014 with this franchise.

So you've already given up on Bostic as the MLB?

No, just going by Emery's quotes in the offseason. He said something to the effect he might be better on the outside. I haven't given up on Bostic at all. Have high hopes actually. Supposedly he made big improvements in college after his first year as a starter.

For all the people that love to hate and dis on Shea, remember that he is now going to be playing his natural position. And then he'll be a great signing after all! But even then, fans from the city also have a history, when they hate or dislike someone it never goes away, and reading all these threads just proves how much of what I'm saying is true. When people get the hate going on,nothing including great success can take it away.

I think if Emery wanted Bostic at the Mike it's kind of unlikely he's be working to sign back DJW.

I thought Bostic looked lost at the Mike a bunch last year. Obviously he could get better, but I don't think they feel comfortable putting him out there as the starter this season.

BS. Success is the one thing that will take the hate away.

I'm good with the signing (potentially) - won't be too much money and will establish a solid vet in the middle.

I agree he looked lost, but I think the only way for Bostic to become less "lost" is to get more experience. I also don't see how one would expect Bostic to look less lost playing a completely new OLB position this year.

I think the Bears simply need bodies to fill out their defensive roster at this point. DJW qualifies...if he's not suspended/injured again.

I think Sam is easier to play than Mike, esp for a young guy who played in a different defense in college. Anyway, yes, they are certainly going to have someone competing with DJW. I thought he was competent last year, and I think he could be again if the DL is fixed, but he's a stop gap solution.

I'm not so sure. Urlacher was absolutely lost when he started out at Sam. It wasn't until Minter got hurt that they moved him to MLB and said "See ball, hit ball" that he began to flourish.

Perhaps. I don't remember BU being a force right out of the gate at Mike but I might not remember correctly. He also had the natural cover skills to play the deep middle and also had pretty good DTs. I think Bostic is a different player as well. But, no matter what I think it looks like they envision him as a Sam, at least to begin this year.
