He did have questionable calls and that trick play with one of the dumbest players in the nfl is questionable.

But it doesn’t negate 2.5 years of great playcalling.

Every coach will look like an idiot from time to time. This game is certainly on Goff and the ass defense. Eventually both would cost them
I mean, I agree. Can’t call that play with pea brain Jameson. They were moving the ball at will. His “trick plays” have worked at like a 90% clip but I think he does get way to cute.

But, it doesn’t change the fact he’s the best offensive HC candidate by a country mile. How many draft cycles include a play caller with 3 straight years of top 5 offense.

Ben Johnson will be hired Monday. Warm up Allen’s arm cause he tossing dimes comes September 2025
He’s either a QB here or a run blocker for the Chargers.

Whats the difference between him and Johnson....other than he's already been a HC at multiple levels and with another dumpster fire organization?

Because he’s already failed to develop one nfl #1 overall pick and failed to lead a rebuild of a franchise.

Like I said if this was a few years down the road maybe.

So who's the guy?

Johnson looks good on paper......but if the reports are true about him; he has trestman vibes.....plus him and brady/cohn are total projections (not something this org has done well identifying the right players/coaches)

McCarthy, etc.....blah

Trade for a coach? Not unless it's McVay

McCarthy or Johnson.

The lions still win this game if Goff doesn’t shit the bed.

Do they?

They really never stopped Washington; not sure much would have been different minus the TO

The Lions turned it over five times and still managed to score 31 points while passing for 300+ and rushing for 200+. Yeah, I’ll still gladly take Ben Johnson.

Yea, but he called a stupid play once so none of that matters

BJ is not my top choice but I can live with him. I do think there is a very real possibility that he could bust — or boom. Huge risk factor with him.

The safer pick — the most natural pick— to me, is Kliff. I mean, he did it with a bunch of different QB’s and had/has them playing at elite levels. Plus Caleb has a relationship with him. The only time Kliff had trouble with a QB was with a young Kyler who did not always have his head in the game.

Ben Johnson lights up Flores’ defense and I’m sure he’d do the same to the Lions D. He’s still my top guy and should fare well in the division and hopefully our D can get back to being good.

If the rumors are true that he's an introvert and can't command a room/be a leader then he's prob not the guy for HC

Not sure why they're talking to Eddie George but not Kingsbury
At least Eddie took his team to the playoffs.

BJ is too much of a gamble for me due to first time HC. More often than not, the first go around ends in failure, and the Bears can’t afford that entering Caleb’s 2nd season. If Bears had an established veteran QB, you can take the risk.

Bears fans flip flop so damn much. The Lions offense was anchored by Goff

I think Goffs picks were on Goff, not the play calling. Those WRs looked open. Williams pick is totally on Johnson, but at that point, you need something big. Meanwhile, Jayden Daniels was throwing some perfect passes through football sized windows.

This game was won because Detroit’s defense was wet tissue paper compared to what they were at the beginning of the season.
And that’s the rub. You can talk all day long about bad coaching. Look. If Williams was dropping absolute dimes on 50 yarders, coaching be damned it would have looked a lot better than that.

And now you’ll have people wanting kingsbury, and that’s great, but unless Daniels is coming with him, its probably going to look more like Arizona than like that

Johnson and monken are best two available this hiring cycle. But it seems like bears twitter been trying to sell McCarthy to the fans and most likely paid by George to do it

Johnson made an incredibly stupid call at the worst possible time. It doesn’t erase all the amazing stuff he’s accomplished over the last few years. I remember a guy named Kyle Shanahan blowing the Super Bowl for Atlanta with some ridiculous decisions late in that game. He’s still pretty good.

Johnson isn’t a lock to be a good head coach, but I think Caleb would thrive under him.

Monken is a good choice too.

You can have Kliff. So much of what he’s doing is predicated on the threat of the QB run. The majority of his game plan last night was based off triple option looks. Daniels was absolutely blown up several times. He probably has more rushing attempts than half the number 2 RBs in the NFL. Kliff does give his QB a lot of easy throws. I would not go nuts if they hired him but again, he’s not my first choice.

Brady is interesting too.

McCarthy isn’t sexy but he’d have a great plan for Caleb and there’s not another candidate that can match his resume.

The other guys are projections.

It was funny last night listening to Brady talk about the end around WR pass Johnson called. He knows it was ridiculous but would not properly analyze it because he’s trying to hire the guy.

Did you see the pressure he was under?? Why not roll pocket and make things easier for your QB? — or change the protections. BJ did nothing. BJ left Goff back there - stationary - to fend for himself.

That’s on BJ
Goff is a statue. You want him protected in the pocket. He sucks otherwise. If BJ was drawing up plays to get Goff outside the pocket, it would show he doesn’t know his personnel.
