Dont get me wrong i wouldnt mind seeing him in cubbie blue, but for me if the cubs are going to throw an assload of money at a firstbasemen i think i would rather give it to fielder. Pujols is older and could hurt us in the backside of his contract more. Let him go to the american league east and lets go get the fat guy from mil.

You would be wrong. I misread it, I apologize for not being perfect.

Whether or not he comes here or not, I don't give a shit about them. I don't give a shit that Sosa used them. I don't give a shit that Bonds used them. I don't give a shit that McGwire used them. No matter where he goes, it's not going to change how I feel about them. However, you may be right when you say many people will change their feelings.

Funny that you roll your eyes that someone corrects your mistake when you jump over people all the time.

Anyway, I agree. I'll sign someone whether they use steroids or not. We aren't putting together a group of ambassadors/representatives of the country, we are trying to build a good baseball team.

Why?

I think it just shows that they want to win. I respect that.

I respect wanting to win, but I can't say I respect PED usage.

I don't look into that when signing someone. If you will help us win, you are good in my books.

Only Cub fans wouldnt want the BEST player in today's game. Only Cub fans wouldnt want the player who could become the best player of ALL TIME. Theres a reason why cubs havent won in over 100 years and its cause when Cubs dont go for the World Series Cub fans always say NEXT YEAR. **** NEXT YEAR i want the world series now and if that means giving the best player 35 mil for 7 years and having to deal with him maybe suxing the last 2 or 3 years then so be it. He would give the Cubs a GREAT chance of winning there first title in over 100 damn years.:hitler:

though I agree in principle, pretty sure JH and the front office don't read message boards or give much of two shits what the fans think.

Hey Dews.. In response to what you posted earlier with all the holes..

That's not really the case..

I posted a potential plan that only had 3 holes.

LF (after moving Soriano, but may not be a hole if Jackson can be productive)
5th SP (Will probably be below average in 2010.. We just don't know far yet for 2011)
2B (Will be a negative until we bring someone in other than Baker, Barney, DeWitt)

Other than that pretty much everything else is at least average to a little better.

I couldn't care less if they use PED's.

Baseball is entertainment and it's more entertaining when the players are better, and in order for them to be better sometimes they use PED's.

Whether or not Pujols or Bonds or Sosa is all jacked up steroids or HGH or Flintstone Vitamins has no effect on my life whatsoever. I am a paying customer, I am the one paying his salary, and honestly for them to be making 10's of millions of dollars on my dime I couldn't care less what they do to their bodies. I want the best product on the field that can possibly be put out there.

And if that comes with a little Roger Clemens roid rage.... so be it.

I think Dews is just jealous that the Cubs are even being discussed with Pujols.

Can you link me to that plan? I would like to see it. I would think there are a few more holes than that, but its certainly possible.

I don't see why some are acting like the Cubs don't have the money. Yeah, there will be holes but it's not like the Cubs wouldn't be able to spend to fill those holes...

I understand what you are saying, but the Cubs 2012 payroll is already 72.6 M over only 6 players (Soriano, Zambrano, Dempster, Byrd, Marmol and Marshall) so basically we just have two SP, two RP and two OF's locked up in that. You add Pujols at lets say 30 million and we are sitting at 102.6M over only 7 players. Now granted we still have players like Castro, Garza and Soto here but thats a lot of holes. The Cardinals didnt win the division last year and they had a much better supporting cast for Albert than what we currently do.

I would love to see him here (at a reasonable cost) but we would still have a few holes.

Sure, wed still have holes but if you actually want to sign Pujols you better be willing to increase payroll to do that. I don't see any reason the Cubs could not take on a $150-160MM (or more) payroll.... Besides Ricketts not wanting to.

Perhaps. Pujols would definitely bring in more revenue to the team.

Another thing they could do is sell more games broadcast rights to comcast. It wouldnt be a popular decision among fans but it would generate $$

I would love to see Pujols in Cubbie blue, however, I would definitely not want to see Fielder at Wrigley in anything other than a Brewers jersey. That man is one bratwurst away from a massive coronary.

And as far as PED's, I don't condone them or support them or even like the fact that they have been/ are still used. But the fact of the matter is that they were/ are. And 10 years ago, it was awesome watching Sosa and McGuire jack up 50 homers a year, but now it's sort of grown old. But whatever, it's not super important.

And I think there are definitely more holes than we think there are. We need a 2B, Barney is Theriot v. 1.1. - slightly more range, little more power.

Ramirez and Fonzie haven't proven to me that they want to be here. Granted, come July when the season's basically over, I wouldn't want to be, either. But for the amount of money they're both getting, they aught to.

Besides Garza and Dempster (and Z, I suppose), our starting pitching is pretty limited. Our bullpen looks good. But we need at least 1 more real solid rotation guy.

After this year, Pena will be gone. And I think Byrd is too? (I'm probably wrong on that, though.)

So just by putting 30+ million a year on Pujols really will limit anything else that can be done. If we didn't have awful contracts on the books for Fonzie, Ramirez, and Z, it would probably be more likely and actually possible from a getting 5 man rotation and eight other guys on the field aspect.
