The best case scenerio to me is Pujols going to a non-NLC team.(and the cubs sign Fielder)

Next, would be the cardinals give him 10yrs $300MM. They'd be screwed.

Third, he goes to the Cubs for 7 years.

You forgot something lol

I know but i do think C.C. is going to opt out and try to get paid even more by the yanks... But maybe the cubs can lure him away. Pitchers like the N.L. we have that going for us and if we get fielder and a couple more pieces we become an EXTREMELY attractive team.

Oh I agree, just saying if I am putting odds on players leaving I would put money on Pujols over CC.

Though I still don't think either are moving.

I kind of would be surprised he goes back to STL after the offers they sent...unless they start getting serious he's gone.

My favorite teams
  1. Chicago White Sox
  2. Chicago Cubs
  1. Chicago Fire
  1. Chicago Bulls
  1. Chicago Bears
  1. Chicago Blackhawks
  1. Chicago State Cougars
  2. DePaul Blue Demons
  3. Illinois-Chicago Flames
  4. Loyola Ramblers
  5. Northern Illinois Huskies
  6. Northwestern Wildcats
I really don't care what happens at all. There are 4 scenarios:
1) Since STL screwed themselves over by not signing him when he was cheaper, they give him a huge contract that they can barely handle or build around.
2) He comes to the Cubs and we have the best player of our generation.
3) He goes to the Nationals and is out of the division.
4) He goes to the AL and leaves us alone.

Notice that this is a win-win-win-win for the Cubs no matter what happens?

But say they do increase payroll we go after fielder johnson rp maybe a C.C. run too if they increase it enough along with the other guys they have to get to fill a few more holes. C.C. IS WHY WE SHOULD CARE. A true number 1 guy who is consistant.

Why do we need a true number one guy? Poods posted an article a while back, offense is clearly the Cubs' problem. Pitching isn't where we need to improve, it's the offense.

Wouldn't you rather improve the offense and pitching at the same time?

I'm not sayin its a dire need but gettin C.C. helps out a ton and if you have the chance to get a number one guy you do it. And lets face it our starting staff doesnt exactly strike fear into other teams hearts. Im not sayin our staff is bad but its not excellent either. Im sure Z wont come back after his contract is up. (which is fine by me.) It mean lets say this is the staff for 2012 CC, Z, Garza, Demp, and insert whoever that is a formitable staff with the right pieces could IMO hang with philly. Their staff is obviously stronger but if we upgrade offense too ya never know.

Well duh. But Fielder + Johnson is going to be about equal to the cost of Pujols, CC wouldn't be factored in there. And frankly, the Cubs aren't going to get two superstars in the same off season, that talk is just ludicrous.

I understand im not delusional but its not completely out of the relm of possibilties. Its very unlikely C.C. leaves NYY but never say never thats all I am saying. Ricketts could be playing it cool this year and them bam goes stienbrenner on the leagues asses know one knows but him and the people very close to him.

Honestly, I'd just give Colvin the starting job in 1B and RF at the same time... he can cover a lot of ground. JK.

I love Pujols as a player, but hate him as a Cardinal if that makes sense.

I'd be fine with Pujols, Fielder, or Gonzalez if Boston doesn't finalize his extension.

I think Pujols will stick with StL which would help the Cubs more than if he signed with the Cubs, they would be much better off signing 2 or more solid players, see the Fielder/ Johnson discussion. As we have seen often times it’s the role players that make the difference.

With Pujols being signed, the Cards would have their balls in a vice financiallyand would not be able to fill in the roster with those role players.

With that being said I feel the Cubs are more prepared to withstand the financial blow that signing Pujols would create. The issue is the fact that you really don’t know how willing Ricketts would be to absorb such a financial shock. I don't believe Ricketts would do that. thats why I still see Pujols singing with the Cards
