Not the question that he would live there..

Will the Cardinals even offer him a contract?

I think the Cardinals have been pretty clear that they are not going to go after Fielder if they weren't going to bring Pujols back.

I'm so on the fence w/ this. There are great arguments made both ways...he'd be great for us, but the back end of his contract would probably be over-paying.

I tentatively vote yes.

Fielder is. Of coming

The Cubs will not give him the years. Six years should be their limit
If Soriano has taught us anything it's steer clear of contracts that take
You past a Players prime years

I voted yes because Dewey voted no.

That settles it right there. The voice of reason.

The Soriano experiment is one that should never be repeated, and quite frankly, one that a rule should be put in place to prevent from ever happening again! I'm perfectly OK letting Fielder walk and join another team if it means not taking on another 7 years commitment to a 275lb below average defensive 1st baseman. I'm already thinking about all the errors Castro is going to get next year without Pena at 1st.

5 years MAX, maybe 6th year team option w/ 3-4mil buyout.

I think the Cubs have a chance to get him. But like FT said, Theo is playing it perfect. Waiting for the market to lower on him. No way the Cubs give him a 8-10 year deal. If Fielder goes else where, Theo is fine with that too.

There is a huge difference between Fielder and Soriano.

A) Soriano relied on his legs for value.
B) Soriano was older. Fielder is only 27.
C) Fielder is a much better player than Soriano.

Let's all just relax and watch Theo do his thang.

I am having to talk myself into allowing Theo to do his thing, must be years of Hendry and Tribune ownership.

It will ruin a man. Many Cubs fans may need therapy after having to go through the many years of crap.

Not entirely true at all.

Also, Fielder may be younger but take a look at historical stats for overweight players and what they do around the 29-32 mark. They usually dive off rather sharpley. Even at a position like 1B.

I think Fielder is not as tied to the fall off as players like his dad and Mo Vaughn.

Fielder apparentlty is in good shape for a man his size and seems to be losing weight as he ages. I remember him 2-3 years ago and he had to be close to 330lbs.

I think that the age difference is key for Soriano who was probably 33-34 when we signed him and Fielder is a confirmed 28.

For his size ther eis only so much you can do to keep wear and tear off your body. Especially your knees. I don't think Fielder is a slob or anything but it's just kind of the reality of the situation. Giving Fielder anything more than a 5 eyar deal IMO would be a mistake a really big risk.

If we can get 5 good years from him I would give him a 6 year deal and just eat the last season or try and trade him to the AL to DH.

How is it not entirely true? Soriano relied on his legs for value. That is about as true of a statement as there is. Not all of his value, but just value. He has/had a power bat, but he got a LOT of value from his legs due to his ability to steal and range in the OF.

I really don't think there is a correlation between size and performance. I think it is based on the player's skillset and Fielder is a better player than most of the fatties that have played the game.

Because all his value wasn't due to his legs.

Are you dense?

No. You are. I said that he relied on his legs for value(I didn't say how much). You said that it is not entirely true. Him relying on his legs for X amount of value is absolutely true. Him relying on his legs for all of his value would be false. But I didn't say that he relied on his legs for all of his value, did I?
