Does Caleb Williams check down too much?

It was holding, and it was back to back plays. Both holds happened about 1-2 seconds before the sack. Caleb saw it but didnt let it rip, not really sure why. Then ate a sack.

Kinda weird since his hero is the best in the NFL of taking advantage of free plays

He's still young and a rookie.

He's probably pretty freaked out behind this oline.

Yesterday was William's best game because he checked down....

If that continues then defenses will have to account for it. They will be giving up easy first downs like the Rams did yesterday.

Williams was, for the most part, unfazed by the blitz and made the Rams pay for doing it.

It's about context. If it's 3rd and 4 at your opponents 34(inside Santos' range), if guys are wide open between the 30 and 28 yard line, doesn't it make more sense to try to hit them, then throw towards the end zone?

We might be better in the long run if Caleb is beating teams with his brain rather than just his arm.

We need less big game hunting from Williams, so no. He did way better this week.

There's still some cases where he needs to get rid of the ball and not take some hits. Or get out of there, run and slide.

But he's looking more and more like the franchise guy everyone thought he is.

A friend of mine pointed out that he has missed several easy NFL throws. Overthrowing receivers is something he needs to stop. Happy feet maybe?

I don't think at this stage considering how dysfunctional the offense has been this season that he's going to be the guy chucking it deep often. I think baby steps are needed. lot of people were criticizing Swift starting going into the game, right? he reestablished running today and it made the offense flow better. I missed a portion of the game but I think Stafford got wrecked more than Williams, and the Rams offensive line isn't a porous patchwork piece of shit last I checked.

in other words Williams is going to need to probably do that and work his way up to setting up Da Vertical Pass(tm)
Wut?

15 of 15 below 20 yards. They won.

Nothing wrong with taking what is available, but until Caleb can improve his accuracy on deeper throws, defenses will adjust quickly.

Caleb, the coaches, the rest of the team need to get a hell of a lot better before we start playing the good defenses later in the year. If we were playing Brian Flores defense next week I would fear for Caleb‘s life and our ability to score at all. We are happy to win against a really lousy defense but it’s not like the Bears lit it up. It’s hard to imagine all of a sudden we start clicking well on offense with all of the issues, I guess it’s just hope.

Newsflash:
This just in. Rookie QB needs to stop being a rookie QB and play like a seasoned vet.

I think it is happy feet, or a better name would be scared feet behind the oline.

If it’s not there medium-long, I want him to check down rather than standing there and eating a sack.
100 Percent taking the checkdowns yesterday changed the offense IMO. If you consistently get 5 yards versus nothing or losing or turning it over that's a massive W. He just needs to start hitting the downfield opportunities when he has the chance. It was overall a good game for Mr. Williams yesterday.

Serious question, is he our new Kyle orton?
I'm fine with it early on as stepping stone. If you watch what the Commanders did with Daniels over the first two games they pretty much had Daniels play like a game manager with basic swing routes, slants, crossing patterns along with a steady influx of running the ball. Through this Daniels but an in game repertoire with his offense and receivers and are building consistency from the ground up. Along comes week 3 and suddenly Daniels is able to stretch the field more and more to a growing stat line. The Bears OC should have handled Williams in the exact same manner out of the gate, instead of another all or nothing offensive game plan where Waldron has his rookie QB trying to sling the ball deep down the field off from a short completion and 2 yards and a cloud of dust . That approach is impractical and impatient at best. The Bears and Williams should be able to take a similar and simplified approach vs the Panthers as they did yesterday. Don't **** up by turning the ball over and have you QB and the rest of the offense build real consistency from the ground up over repetition and gradually stretch things out from there. It's some basic ***** bullshit but it works.

Another thing Washinton has done to help Daniels is go out and get three solid veteran offensive linemen.

It's early. We don't just have a rookie QB, but everyone is learning a brand new offense. The overthrows are concerning, but it could also be just the QB and receiver not being on the same page. If its the latter, that will fix itself over time.
