Junior Lake struck out to end the seventh, but has gone 2 for 4 on the night. He is becoming a pretty interesting prospect with his improved walk rate. Smokies are up 2-1 heading into the eighth.

Finding him a spot is going to be the tough thing. To big SS. Dont know if he has enough power for 3B

He has gone over 5 innings a couple of times and I don't know if 80 was the number the whole season or not. I am just speculating at why he has a good ERA and never been stretched out that deep in games. Either way it is encouraging. It isn't like McNutt is going to be an impact arm, but the odds of him being a useful big league arm is certainly going up with more perfromances like tonight.

May want to look up the boxes to see how many pitches he throws in each start.

I think you can find a spot for him if the bat continues to develop. The power potential for Lake is pretty promising, and he has some nice speed. He has been hitting leadoff here a bit recently and his approach seems to be better. Watched him drop a nice bunt for a hit a few days ago. I don't know it just seems like he could be something special.

Could Cubs be lucky enough to have 2 type of players like Castro? They are only like 3 months away from age

B-Ref doesn't keep game logs but here:

Trey McNutt Minor League Statistics & History - Baseball-Reference.com

153 batters faced in a little over 34 innings across 9 starts. That's less than 4 IP per start as I stated and a bit over 4 batters per inning. His walk rate is high and his strikeout rate isn't. If he can string together a few more 5+ inning starts then I think we can be encouraged, but that's what I'm talking about.

Well the last four starts he has gone 5, 5, 4, and now 6 innings. The strikeouts to walks hasn't been great, but I am looking for anything after the 4.55 ERA season he had last year.

8 on the year now. On pace for around 20. Maybe he figured it out

I think he had trouble adapting to leagues way above his age level, but it seems like he has caught up with it.

That has been his pattern throughout his career. He tends to struggle for the first month or so of a promotion and then goes on a hot streak.

So lets get that bad month out of the way this year so he ready to hit next year for Cubs :smug2:

I am guessing that is unlikely, but I would like him to put up some gaudy numbers in AAA first.

Improved. Adequate. RT @EricFlaris: @Kevin_Goldstein Has Vitters' defense improved any or is he still a butcher?

If he can hit .270 20 HR and be adequate be worth more then .200 12 HR and good DEF

Yeah but if their OBP are close to the same it is a lot closer. Vitters was walking a lot early this season, but he is getting back to old habits. The power is nice to see, but I am far from convinced that Vitters can consistenly hit 20 in the big leagues.

Homer #1 in the career of Javier Baez!!! A 3 run BOMB to left center and the Chiefs lead 7-0. Welcome to the Chicago area Javier!

Now Goldstein will rank him number 1 prospect of Cubs. lmao
