if you want to go by athletic standards

guys like lebron,wade, howard,durant

would give the dream team some issues

i give credit to jordan and pippen as defenders and great athletes

but lebron is basically an athletic guard in karl malone's body, but quicker....lebron is probably the most athletically gifted player ever to play basketball

wade is pretty ridiculous too, he would be tough to guard because he has great quick feet, and is ridiculously strong for a guard

durant is a freak, he's quick and a strong finisher, is the height of a post man with a ridiculous wingspan, and shoots like ray allen...his release point makes him insanely hard to guard

howard is 6'11 chiseled, agile, and strong as living hell...i do think what limits him is that his agility advantaged is a bit mitigated with being in the post..but i think in some other aspects he would be a problem even for the physical ewing and robinson

Yeah that's all true. Lebron is probably the most difficult to guard out of anyone just because he's too fast for anyone strong enough to guard him and too strong for anyone fast enough to guard him. Anyone in NBA history would have their hands full guarding him. Durant would probably be the next most difficult just because of his sheer length to go along with his quickness. He's kind of like a 7ft guard. I think Pippen could do an ok job on him though because he has enough length to at least bother him a little. It'd be sorta similar to where Pippen guarded Kukoc, except Durant is a million times better.

I think Wade's physical strength wouldn't be as advantageous as the other guys' unless he was being guarded by Mullin. Both Jordan and Drexler had the speed to keep up with him (I think Jordan might've been just as fast or faster) and even if they lack a bit of strength (and these guys weren't exactly weaklings) their length makes up for it a bit imo.

In Howard's case I think he has the least advantage of all because as strong as he is, it's not like he vastly overpowers them like he was Shaq or something. The only thing he's much better in is probably quickness and jumping ability which isn't as important is post play offensively.

Perhaps I overrate the Dream Team's defense a little, but I think that what they lack in athleticism them make up for in skill and timing and overall team defense. :dunno:

Idk...the only guys that the modern team would have a definite athletic advantage over are the aging Bird and Magic, Laettner, Mullin, and Stockton. Offensively everyone except probably Laettner and Mullin could probably do their job just as effectively against more athletic competition. Defensively, all those guys had a lot of help from all NBA defenders either in the paint or on the perimeter.

The Spurs' main guys were also far older than the Thunder's main guys. I mean, their big 3 were all over 30 while the Thunder's were all younger than 25. That plays a huge factor. In this case, most of the Dream Team is in their prime. Only guys who weren't were Bird and Magic, and those guys were still really good.

As ATHLETES id take just about anyone on this years team over the dream team minus MJ and Pip. But with the time era difference I think its an invalid argument.

Lebron is Magic minus the great passing. A point guard trapped in a Forwards body. I'm not saying that Magic at the Dreamteam point in his life was athletic like he was earlier, but, honestly now, who ya got guarding Magic? or Jordan or Bird? Which one of those is Westbrook, Rose or Paul guarding?

It would be pretty funny if we had some kind of time-space device to make it happen. I'd love to finally answer that age old question, will Christian Laettner be a dud, or dominate?

for minutes... damn.. idk..

30 for all the starters and 18 for the bench?

Laettner wouldn't play much though. So make his about 5 minutes and give more to Ewing and Chuck.

And Actually give MJ some more too.. since he's a lot better than Drexler and would play more.
