i wished they had neutral on this thing...home team gets a little boost over the away team..

that's kinda why i did an alternating series

the team weighs offense a bit heavily on this and does not take in defense as much

nor does it take into account context very well(it's a simulator..so this is expected)

you have to take these results with a grain of salt

i think this supports the consensus, however, that the 1992 team would probably win by 10-15 against the 2012 team

with howard down low...it might change a little

which is why i want to sim with the 2008 team

Random aside (not sure if this was mentioned earlier or not) but I thought Barkley was the starter on the Dream Team?

Probably no difference since every player is playing more or less the same minutes anyway. Just a logistical thing really.

Interested to see how the Howard factor will play in simulation world.

not sure...hard to know how the simulator can take into account all the rotational interactions and teammate interactions that go on...

i would think his offense and dominance at center would factor in well

his defense would translate as well..but i'm pretty sure the site doesn't take defense into account as well because it looks primarily at stats and there aren't many reputable stats for overall, intangible defense

now there are blocks..but even then that's not too discrete

That's the problem with simulators. I think the lack of KD's 30 ppg might hurt the 2008 team because it's so stat based. And even with the blocks thing...Dream Team has Ewing and Robinson. Those guys averaged like 8 blocks between them. Plus you got Jordan and Pippen who usually were good for a block each at that time as well.

ya, i think that's a glaring flaw in it

but i think it does suggest, though it's credibility can be seriously questioned, that the dream team is distinctively better than this current olympic team...

Well you got 12 Hall of Famers and all of them learned how to play together so their chemistry was off the charts. I guess you could say the 2008 team had some good chemistry too though...

In any case I thought it was pretty clear that the Dream Team was better, but I guess not everyone shares my thoughts on that. :elephant:

Lebron is Magic minus the great passing. A point guard trapped in a Forwards body. I'm not saying that Magic at the Dreamteam point in his life was athletic like he was earlier, but, honestly now, who ya got guarding Magic? or Jordan or Bird? Which one of those is Westbrook, Rose or Paul guarding?

Magic Johnson wasn't very athletic...period. Not much of an athlete. Lebron is NOT Magic without the passing. Lebron is...Lebron. Magic was the greatest pg ever in my opinion. But he couldn't score and he definitely didn't play defense like Lebron James does. Jordan would be a huge problem, and Bird didn't have a workable spine at that point.

But here is the question you are not asking. Who on that old team guards Rose? Pippen never had to guard pgs like Rose and Westbrook. Malone and Barkley would be a huge problem for this team also, though I think Love would play well against them, he would have a hard time stopping them from scoring. Put Lebron on Jordan or Karl Malone?

Another HUGE difference in the two teams...big men. Robinson, Ewing trump the centers in this day and age. Unlike Magic and Bird, Robinson and Ewing were in their primes. Robinson was just as athletic as Howard is now, great rebounder, and a much better scorer, Ewing also was a better offensive player.

At the end of the day, I go by one rule. Never bet against Jordan. So I am picking the original Dream Team.

Yeah I know it has its flaws.

I just really wanted you to do this because I was arguing with a friend about who would win. He argued that the 2012 team would either win, or be RIGHT there with the DT because of their athleticism and outside shooting. I argues that the DT would win easily because they would dominate the paint and boards... and it's not like the DT didn't have good perimeter players. I'm pretty sure they had someone named Jordan.

Anyway.. We were just going back and forth and i remembered this simulator
