The problem with Root Canals is the tooth is usually already infected, hence the need for a Root Canal in the first place. Along with the infection goes pain and sensitivity BEFORE the Dentist gets started digging the root out of the hole he drilled down the center of the tooth. By the time he reaches the infected nerve, the pain is very intense and you're squirming from the pain. The chance of you moving while the dentist is drilling is increased by the reaction to the pain thereby reducing his effectiveness...That's why you need an anesthetic. I had one done, and once the anesthetic wore off, look out!
That being said, I can't say someone didn't have one without the drugs, but I would be very surprised if they did..Next Dentist visit, Imma going to ask my Dentist if he ever did one without pain killers
