No doubt he is watching all roster moves but I think they just determined today that Fry is not going to be the guy so free up the spot. I would be surprised if they did this because the next move is set in stone. Let Eddy kick the next 2 games unless a cut happens, and see if he can take the job,. He has the physical potential.

If not hopefully Riviera hooks us up!

Is that a Buick Riviera or our super bowl LBer Rivera? LOL

Well, I say that, but then I listen to Nagy’s words from today. I get that he acknowledged they’re never done looking for better players, and that includes the kicker position. But it sure sounded like they consider the kicking position won by Pineiro, which seems counterintuitive to me, but who am I to argue with the guy making the decisions.

From Nagy’s presser today, he said they’re “moving forward with Eddy” and that this now allows Eddy “to get all the reps in practice and over the next two games”. And when a reporter asked, “Is the competition over?,” he responded, “Yes, between those two.” That does leave the door open for a third party kicker, but when coupled with all of Nagy’s other comments, it indicates to me that they consider the Pineiro-Fry competition to have been won by Pineiro. And they’re going to roll with Pineiro at least the rest of the preseason.

Very interesting—Fry should’ve missed his one kick in the first game, not the second, apparently....

Man, this whole kicker crisis is just depressing. We're going to go into the season with this position still being a complete question mark

True, but when kicker is your biggest worry going into a season, thats some first world problems right there.

Sounds like they will head with Dinero unless there is a camp cut that they like which they seem to think is unlikely

if it were really as close as we believe, why not waive the guy who would cost you a draft pick if on the team? there must be something we don't know for Fry to be released.

They could also be trying to do him a solid. The Browns and the Jets both need kickers. Maybe he will sign on with one of those teams by the end of the week.

Fry was never guy, didn’t have the leg strength to kick in the cold and wasn’t consistent enough to live with the weaker leg.

Now Pinero gets all the kicks and we can really see what he does

Yeah sounds like it isn't just talk that they want to give Piniero every shot from here on out but there's no way they don't also have an eye on others especially Joey Slye.

I am glad Pace made the right choice on two fronts.

1. When evaluating two young kickers he went with the upside kicker. Basically, Fry had to PROVE he was the more reliable kicker to beat out one of the bigger legs the league has seen.

2. He didn't let this "competition" fester any longer. Eddy made some comments about the stress of it last week, and if Fry has an uphill battle to become the most consistent now...he created a better mind space for his kicker the last two weeks without pause.

Now its up to Ed to show he can hold down being the man, or have this slot given to a waiver wire veteran.

In my opinion, given the stipulations of the trade...there is an 8 week trial period left before it costs us anything, there are always a few kickers at home on the couch.

Which reminds me I need to get with my program and start kicking like I had been prior to Robbie Gould showing up.

Pace/Nagy....call me?

Pineiro literally has never kicked below 40 degrees. Not saying he can’t, but I’m not sure cold was a factor. It’s presumptive to say Fry couldn’t kick in the cold when his counterpart literally never has.

I think I know who Pineiro is and what he can do. He can be wildly inconsistent and miss 15-20 percent of his kicks, just like Fry. But he has *biiggg legg*, so I guess we’ll feel better when he’s missing kicks from the 45 instead of the Bears punting?

I think Fry was more an insurance policy in case Piniero was just awful. It seems every time one of these camp bodies get cut, people portray it as Pace doing them a favor. Fry, Hall, and the next cut were just not good enough, Pace isn't some altruistic turk.

Making Piniero the guy changes the dynamic for him. First it was a head to head competition, now it moves to "your the guy, now prove us correct."

Different form of pressure but the right time to make the move. He now has 2 weeks of practice and games to concentrate on the job vs the competition. We will see if he sinks or swims.

Pihero was 92+% from 39 yards and less during college. 75% from 40-49 yards..he is the most reliable where it matters and Nagy can go for it on 4th outside the 40 yard line and rely on our defense to get a stop

I mean ya gotta think the big leg will help him in the cold and wind though. Even if Ed’s never kicked in the cold you would think he’s at least got the advantage with the wind right?

Pineiro might be a genius too.

He had the perfect answer when he came back the next day after Fry landed a right hook to the jaw in the competition so to speak.

When Fry hit the 60 yarder, that was an announcement he was in this thing to win. What Eddy did was more brilliant than just hitting a kick that ranked for distance top 5 in NFL history. He also covered his ass if he missed.

Meaning if he misses from 60 after that...ouch. He falls behind competition. If he misses from 63...well the competition wasn't direct. Sort of like rolling with the punch of Fry, and setting up his own right hook...

which also landed. And won the competition.

So props on the 63, and props on the intelligent move too.
