Jon Morosi is reporting that the Rockies and Royals are swapping garbage of Jeremy Guthrie and Johnathan Sanchez. I am hoping these various moving of crap deals between non contenders breaks the logjam of the trade market.

Hamels has been offered a 6 year 130 million dollar extension and now the Brewers are offering Greinke a 100 million plus extension as well. Garza might be the best on the market after all.

Which is kind of shocking, as I don't think either is worth as much as Sabathia is. Sabathia is currently making $23M per until 2016-2017 where he'll make $25M per for both seasons. 6 years/$130M is $21.7M per... and is probably more along the lines of $18M for next season and $22.5M per after that. Greinke is reportedly mulling over a 5 year/$112.5M offer which is basically what Cain got. That's also $22.5M per. Greinke is not worth as much as Cain, nor is Hamels.

If these reported offers are real, then I think the Brewers and Phillies are doing their best to skew the market again. I don't think either is worth much more than 5 years/$90M. Just because Philly overpaid by leaps and bounds for Lee, doesn't mean Hamels is worth more than $20M per. Hell, they're only paying Halladay $20M per.

I said last year that price of top pitching was going up and this is what is playing out. You only have to look at the Cain extension to see how things are changing.

Jim Thome hit homer #610, passing Sammy Sosa on the all-time list.

Observation...in tonight's game between the Rockies and Padres, Jason Marquis (a not-very-good pitcher) was starting. The Rockies have thus far used two pinch-hitters and their backup catcher (due to injury to their starter) against mediocre-at-best pitching. The guys left on the bench? Tyler Colvin and DJ LeMahieu.

Hmm.

Mike Trout has scored a run in each of the last 13 games. Tied for franchise record now.

DET about to jump over CHW for 1st place.

I believe I called that in the now closed poll of what 1st place teams stand the least chance of reaching the playoffs. It was only a matter of time before the Tigers began playing like they are capable of.

I'm just surprised that they'd do that for Sanchez and not Garza.
