Daley Center, 50 West Washington.

Kind of a stupid question... but where and when would I see the bailiff? hahaa
As I remember...when you walk in the court room, there is a desk where you check in..Thats the Bailiff/clerk, ask him then.

I "supposedly" did that once. I was seventeen, first ticket. It was $75 and I didn't have to go to court. And I live in Chicago too.

I remember once when I was a member of the Chicago Ridge Park District health club..Nice place BTW..I was the only car parked in the lot..I had just got my 99 Cad, so I parked in the last spot closest to the light pole in the center of the lot..This way I could cheat on the yellow line on the passenger side of the car and allow for more room between me and a potential car that would park on the drivers side. By parking next to the light pole, I wasn't going into another parking spot, so I felt OK doing that....I came out, and I had a ticket on the windshield for 60 dollars for parking outside the lines...lol..Again, there must have been 75 parking spots, and I was the only guy in the lot and he wrote me a ticket

Neither. I hardly said anything at all. I was literally a block away from home coming back from work. I just wanted to go to sleep 'cause I have to go back to work right now.

Idk why a cop would waste his time to go to court over someone not stopping completely at a stop sign when no one was around. If I almost hit someone, fine... but c'mon.

It's called Overtime. He will get a minimum of 3 hours OT for going to court that day..If he goes over the 3, then its time and a half hour per hour...Plus..Chicago cops get 1 day a month they have to write their tickets for..He probably has 30 other tickets scheduled for that same day

Going to court is mandatory.

My record is clean though... So hopefully I won't have anything on my record or whatever.

If it's your first ticket, you should be fine. Tough to say though since disregarding a stop sign is actually a fairly big traffic offense. I had the same shit happen to me a block from my fucking house. Cop said I didn't stop, though I know it was complete bullshit. Since I had a couple speeding tix, I just paid the fine. Shit added 6 points to my license! That was a while ago and in Crown Point, but I imagine Chicago is just as bad. Like BB said, ask about a traffic class where you go see a movie, don't get a ticket for 6 months or a year, and it just goes away.

If I drank a beer like two hours ago I'm like freakin out the entire way home. Like am I swerving? It feels like I'm swerving. Crap everyone probably thinks I'm drunk.

I had to ride home with my drunk uncle once when I was little. The crap will scare the driving while intoxicated right out of you.

Oh yeah. My dad always drove drunk. Plus I had two near misses where I got pulled over and should've gotten DUIs but was let off the hook. Ran a stop sign when I was 19 and wasted and since the cop knew my dad, he just offered to follow me home.

Then I was leaving a party that I was supposed to be DD for but ended up getting effed up and was about 30 miles from home, got pulled over for going the wrong way on an alley. I had never been to this town before and simply pulled out of the parking lot of the bar I'd been at and turned the wrong way on it. Cop was kind of a dick about it and I was sure I was going to get popped but I think that once he ran my license and saw I had a clean record and that there was a girl passed out in my front seat and one crying in the back that he didn't want to have to mess with it and let me go. Thank god he did because we had weed and open containers everywhere. I sobered up real quick after that lol.

Well, you've been extremely fortunate. DON'T DRINK AND DRIVE PEOPLE. There's never a good excuse. Call a cab.

Yup, I figured I won't be getting anymore free passes so I don't do it anymore.

Traffic school removes it from your record, lessens the hit on insurance. Do it.

You know, that's been the most disappointing thing for me this year. I've been saying for ages how excited I am to turn 25 and see my insurance go down like they say it always does.

Well since I have a spotless driving record and have never made a claim or even been in a wreck, it won't go down because it never got sky high in the first place. It just consistently got a few dollars cheaper each month.

I know I sound like a spoiled brat complaining about that but I'm genuinely bummed out and no longer looking forward to 25! :)

What if there's a crazed killer in the bar and he begins to come after you? That sounds like a good excuse.

Anyway, a cab is cheaper, and if you get caught, pay the money for a good lawyer, otherwise the county/state will rape the shit out of you and target you in the future. That's why people who get one will normally get a second. It's all a money grab, they don't give two shits about the safety of the people, so protect yourself. But yeah, a cab is the best option.

Or what if the cab companies all wanted to imprison you in a secret cell, while extracting all of your teeth and pulling out your eyeballs?

I'm pretty sure I did stop, albeit briefly. But whatever, I'm not gonna fight it because it's gonna be my word against the cop's word and I will most likely lose.

But does anyone know what happens now? This is the first time I'm going to court. How much is it gonna cost? Traffic school?

in the town I live in that 350 big guy for the rolling stop and lets not forget the assraping they give ya for 180 in court costs

**** calling them sir. You can be polite and not kiss their asses. Their ego is big enough and it will not change a damn thing, that I promise you. I have plenty of court experiences. I'm always polite, but I refuse to call those sociopaths sir or ma'am, especially the judge. For this, you probably won't even have to see the judge. Keep your cool, pay your fine and get the **** out. At the end of the day, the only life you inconvenienced was your own.

You should probably do less illegal stuff.

I was a clerk in traffic court in Chicago for one summer back in, I think, 1985. My advice is to show up in flip flops and a tank top and then tell the judge that the cop is lying. Works every time!

I'm surprised they'd actually make it a mandatory court appearance due to it being a uniform traffic citation, which you say is your first offense. You'd think traffic court was way too crowded for that type of thing, but hey....Chicago is weird.

If I were you- I'd plead no contest. Changing your court date will not matter to the issuing police officer at all as he shouldn't be there since you're only showing up to enter a plea. Once you enter a plea, you'll be issued a trial date (most likely another 30 days out or so) and you'll have your trial on that date, which the officer will have to be present for (He'll show up and make time and a half for a minimum of 3 hours or so as mentioned earlier in this thread).

By pleading no contest- you'll be allowed to speak with a designated court official and they'll most likely lower your forfeiture and reduce the points of citation.

IF you insist on fighting this, don't hire an attorney. Find the precinct of the jurisdiction you were pulled over in and request a copy of all police reports/video of the case number that should be referenced on your citation. This will cost next to nothing (shouldn't exceed more than $10). Read the officer's report (which will most likely be on the officer report of the citation) and review the video.

Judging by your initial post- I'm not sure you came to a complete stop. If you show up to court and the officer has video showing your 'partial-stop or rolling stop'...you're guilty. The judge could easily be annoyed by you and state you're wasting his/her time and could potentially require you to cover further court costs and impose a higher forfeiture.

Any further questions- feel free to send me a private message. I appreciate you as a poster on the Bulls/Bears boards.

The only report on traffic violations is the ticket itself, and he has a copy of that

A rolling stop is a just a ticket with automatic points deduction on your license up here. Only if you want to fight the ticket is a court date needed.
