Ima avoid press and spoilers for this like a mofo.

Is there any word whether they have started development? Is this shit like 3 years away?

It will be released this year. Rumor is October.

EDIT: The official store at one point said TBA 2015, then it was changed to TBA. And some sites picked up that Gamespot listed 10/23/15 as the release date. But nothing has been confirmed.

I wasnt that impressed by the trailer, but then again theres just something about bethesdas formula that doesnt really work for me. ive played a number of their games and enjoyed them all right, but its just these big open worlds that are rather soulless and its really the same game over and over. And after having played the original fallouts, especially the first, im even less impressed with bethesdas version.

I was talking to my friend who said he hadn't ever played them and i didn't know exactly how to describe it to him. I could say post-apocolyptic RPG but pretty much everything is these days. Something about fallout 3 just clicked for me. it's superb and I basically said it's one of those games that when you sit down time will vanish and all of a sudden the sun is coming up and you still will want to play more. For me the VATS system was so ideal to my gameplaying style and such an interesting novel concept that turned gave Fallout three an almost turn based game feel. It just blends a lot of genres for me.

That's because the originals were top-down turn-based back in the day. They were basically trying to preserve some continuity other than "you're wandering around in a post-nuclear-fallout wasteland;" that and it adds a mechanic that is unique in FPSs. Loved this series since it's inception and am pretty pumped for this one too. Between Witcher 3, this, and Quantum Break it looks like it's going to be a good year in gaming.

never played a fallout game. is it worth going back? will it hold up? are the graphics to distractingly bad? Is the narrative compelling enough or is it just open world wandering?

Graphics are probably bad, but not distractingly bad... certainly not bad enough to take away from the story and fun of the game. FO3 is my all-time favorite. It has a huge open world, but you're always on compelling missions; no boring wandering around here. And dude... it's on sale for only $2.49 on Steam right now! And the GOTY edition is only $6.49!!! You can't go wrong with that. Also, if you play on PC, there's tons of mods to make the graphics better (although I've never played it with mods).

Crashed at a pivotal moment... that doesn't sound like that game at all?
