I saw this thread on the homepage and figured I'd vent because acts like that are fucking horrendous. Not once did I go after any of you guys or the sport of hockey. If anything, I figured you all would be more upset at the racist element out there that pays attention to hockey because you all are actually fans of the sport. Instead you get defensive about it and get pissy for no reason.

Now hockey, well ... ok there have been allegations of doing similar stuff to native Americans (I think Chris Simon comes to mind, but might have been others), Euro's and Russians (Pavel Vorobiev had a bit of a spray against the management of the Hawks some seasons back). . .
I don't think there is any doubt that there are idiots out there, that isn't in question -I think though, that some folks might have been taking Rami's emotional reaction to a real event (and it is real emotion too -because, that sort of bs is just not on)... as some sort of comment that that sort of behavior is institutionalised in the sport of ice hockey...
As a (granted really low level) hockey player, whose last team was pretty multi-cultural ... I can say... sir, it really is just the pinheads out there that do that ... and well... yeah. They do suck.

Im sure you may have met a racist hockey fan or two, I believe that, but they arent connected to one another, whether the hockey fan(s) was an actual fan of hockey or horse racing, that fan would be racist regardless.

Yeah there is racism everywhere. Every sport and every sports league.
The thing is that you don't see that type of racial hazing as much as in hockey simply because the other sports are much more ethnically diverse by comparison.
Each of these are isolated incidents and everybody has accountability for their own views and actions. Still, I have witnessed people who only like hockey (and dislike other sports) because they do consider it pure and white. And that is what I was referring to when I expressed frustration on page one of this thread.
Plenty of terrible shit and people are involved with basketball, baseball, football, soccer, horse racing, etc. I was referring to people who are drawn to hockey because they feel an ethnic connection to it. I think that is wrong.

lol ive never met a single person that likes hockey because it a predominantly i white sport. people i know that like hockey like it because its the fastest most entertaining sport that exists. i guess you must hang out or around with alot of racists?

I've lived in Rockford a long time and there are plenty of rednecks here and I did meet that one idiot at a bar that I already mentioned. A black friend of mine had a similar experience. These people are a relatively small sect of the population. But think of what you would do if you were a white supremacist- which of the major sport would be the most appealing to you most likely?
My problem isn't with hockey... it's with racists.

Sometimes people have to look at the bigger picture. And sometimes understanding where someone is coming from and not returning a reflxive volley actually is more helpful. I don't blame a person for getting upset at what was some really Tool behavior.
I'm confident you don't want to go there.
Even Dan Roan claimed that there were only 20,000 hockey fans in the entire Chicagoland area (back in the day), and there were significantly more at the end of season parade in 2010. . . basically, that points to the team having embraced the 'doesn't matter' business model.
