I've been watching Cheers on Netflix. The stuff they got away with you'd never be able to now on network tv.

I'm absolutely serious.

Just like All in the Family. Would never be on air today.

You must not been watching tv in the past 20 years. From sex violence nudity and language. All in the Family wouldn't be on because if tameness

Home Improvement was basically the same episode every week: Tim hurts himself in the opening, then has a problem with the wife/kids/mother/Al and confides in Wilson on how to fix the problem. Wilson will give some odd explanation that deals with Navajo Indians. Tim will go fix the problem, which he always does, but in the meantime he will hilariously mix up the names that Wilson just told him.

Sometimes there was Bob Vila though.

Cheers is dirtier, funnier, and smarter than nearly all of the shows on the networks right now. You think because Carla says 'butt' instead of 'ass' it wouldn't play?

I haven't watched sitcoms in a long, long time. Other than the occasional Family Guy.

Last I watched completely was the original Office.

Larry Sanders Show can still make me laugh.

Black Adder

I'm Alan Partridge

And anything with Shirley Hemphill

You've got to be kidding. Cheers, maybe, but there is no way All in the Family would make it today. The PR police would have a field day.

You wouldn't be able to put a show like Cheers on network TV today. First, it takes place in a bar(only loophole, go out of network to cable like Sunny), secondly people see alcoholism as a disease today, where back in the 1980s, it was still okay to stereotype and make fun of drunks. You can't make fun of 'over-educated' people on network TV now because that conflicts with sponsors. You can't make fun of postal workers because of the same conflicts. You also can't depict ex-athletes as sex hounds, that would clash with PC police big time, not to forget mentioning the whole modern feminist movement.

Cheers is awesome. Am I crazy, but I really don't get a lot of re-watch value out of Fraiser. You see a few episodes and they are very good, but that's all you need for a whole season. I feel the same with Friends, as they are far too repetitive with terribly unoriginal humor. Wings is good though, still has some reoccurring theme, but the comedic drama is really under-rated.

Newsradio, that was a show ahead of its time. Very sharp, good mix of characters.
