Really? You watched him play? Or just looking at the box score?

If he is statistically improving his overall game as seen with an eye test must be improving as well. When you see statistic lines improve so does the play of the player no matter if he has seen him or not. Sure there are those plays that stand out like 1 giveaway a game that leads to a goal but at the same time the player is still scoring goals at a higher rate than he was in previous game stretches. Now I dont know his statline and dont really care about looking up what he has done since he will never be up here, just telling you he could make that statement and not see the games. The only question I have for you is if TBO or someone else came in here and said the same thing would you ask that question, or since its not Joe asking would assume automatically that their comment was made because they watched the game?

As I stated he is looking at 1 aspect of Beach. Sure he's putting up some points good, but lazy defensively, has his normal douchebag antics which hurt the team. Beach is a ****** always has been and it looks like its not going to stop anytime soon.

And I'm pretty sure Tbo and about every other poster here wouldn't bring that up because of his play many don't have the expectations they once had for him.

Beach is a nobody right now. But he has always been recently in the past season or 2 "lazy,****** etc" so if that doesnt change but his stat lines go up he is technically doing better. He is irrelevant anyway to the hawks.

I guess it depends on how you look at him. Skille was the same way, improved numbers year after year, but what many didn't see is he was taking 8+ shots a game.

his shot selection was horrible when he was in the NHL, kind of like how Frolik is now.

and we could have had kopitar.

BEN SMITH NAMED ROCKFORD’S 2011-12 IOA/AMERICAN SPECIALTY AHL MAN OF THE YEAR

Rockford, Ill.- The Rockford IceHogs are proud to announce that Ben Smith has been named the team’s winner of the IOA/American Specialty AHL Man of the Year award for his outstanding contributions to the Rockford community during the 2011-12 season.

In his second full season of professional hockey, Smith has been a staple in the Rockford community, despite battling injuries and recalls between Rockford and the Chicago Blackhawks.

The Avon, Conn. native participated in several community team functions, including family reading nights at local elementary schools and libraries, hospital visits, the IceHogs adopt-a-school program at Lincoln Middle School and a reading program at Hillman Elementary School in Rockford.

Smith’s efforts in the community made the most impact when he befriended 19-year-old Jimmy Newcomer. Newcomer was diagnosed with a rare form of cancer (cancer in his bile ducts) in early December, and by the turn of the calendar year, he was given just a few weeks to live.

After Rockford’s game on Monday, Jan. 16, Smith paid a visit to Newcomer at Swedish American Hospital in Rockford and delivered one of his game-worn jerseys. During his visit with the 19-year-old, Smith found out that Newcomer was suppose to attend his first Blackhawks game on Jan. 18 but couldn’t go because of his deteriorating condition. Smith volunteered his time and said he’d spend that Wednesday night watching the game with him by his bedside.

As life would have it for an AHL player, Smith was recalled to Chicago the next day and couldn’t make the visit. Smith, however, helped organize a team outing that included six of his IceHogs teammates at the hospital, and surprised Newcomer with a Blackhawks watch party with the players, family and friends.

The winger later participated in a fundraiser with several IceHogs teammates at Texas Roadhouse (Newcomer’s former employer) in Rockford where he spent nearly six hours at the event which raised over $10,000 for Newcomer’s medical expenses. Newcomer eventually found enough strength to attend an IceHogs game courtesy of Smith.

The second-year winger was a hopeful to make the Chicago Blackhawks roster out of training camp last fall, but a concussion in the Blackhawks final preseason game sidelined him to start the season and eventually landed him in Rockford. After a productive campaign in Rockford and nine games in Chicago with the Blackhawks, Smith was eventually shut down for the season because of a torn hip labrum and hernia.

Despite his own personal and professional adversity, including injury and the back-and-forth shuffle between Rockford and Chicago, Smith is always one of the first to volunteer for hospital visits, school appearances or meet and greets with fans.

Smith is now one of 30 finalists for the AHL’s 2011-12 Yanick Dupre Memorial Award, honoring the overall IOA/American Specialty AHL Man of the Year. The league award is named after the former Hershey Bears forward and AHL All-Star who died in 1997 following a 16-month battle with leukemia. The winner of the Yanick Dupre Memorial Award will be announced by the American Hockey League in the coming weeks.

Next Home Game: Tuesday, April 10 vs. Charlotte Checkers. Puck drop is set for 7:05 p.m. It's the last Taco Bell Dollar Day at the BMO Harris Bank Center as the IceHogs welcome the Checkers. Fans can get hot dogs, beers, sodas and companion tickets for just one dollar a piece.

Icehogs comeback and tie the game with 43 seconds left but fall in a shoout out. McNeil centered the 4th line and 2nd PP unit like twice. Danault started on the 4th line and moved up to the 2nd line. Kent Simpson started and looked very solid.

Team awards

Rockford, Ill.-The Rockford IceHogs, proud members of the American Hockey League and affiliate of the National Hockey League’s Chicago Blackhawks, announced their 2011-12 team awards before their regular season finale on Saturday at the BMO Harris Bank Center.

Goalie Carter Hutton was named the IceHogs Most Valuable Player. In his first season with Rockford and second overall at the professional level, Hutton compiled a record of 22-13-4 with a 2.35 goals against average and .917 save percentage. The Thunder Bay, Ontario’s 2.35 GAA is an IceHogs AHL single season record while his .917 SPCT matches the modern era mark.

From Feb. 24 to April 10, Hutton started 20 of 21 games for Rockford, going 12-5-2 with a 1.74 goals against average and a .937 save percentage. Hutton was named the AHL’s Player of the Week award twice this season, becoming the first IceHogs skater to accomplish that feat.

After beginning the season with the IceHogs’ ECHL affiliate Toledo Walleye, Hutton was recalled to Rockford on Dec 3. and never returned to the ECHL. From Dec. 3 to April 10, Hutton appeared in 43 of Rockford’s 54 contests. Excluding his first two starts and final three starts of the season with Rockford, which all resulted in losses, Hutton went 22-8-4.

Brandon Pirri was given the team’s Leading Scorer award as the second-year center paces Rockford with 55 points, including 23 goals and 32 assists. Pirri also leads the team in multi-point games, shots, plus/minus and power play points.

Ryan Stanton garnered the team’s Top Defenseman award. The steady blueliner was the only IceHogs player to appear in every game in 2011-12.* Stanton is the current active team-leader with 128 penalty minutes and has totaled 3g-13a-16pts in his second pro season.

Another defenseman picked up an IceHogs honor as Joe Lavin was named the IceHogs Rookie of the Year. The first-year d-man totaled 3g-14a-17pts during his first pro season. The University of Notre Dame alumnus helped anchor down a young IceHogs blueline that featured three rookies, two second year skaters and one veteran down the stretch.

Peter LeBlanc was awarded with Rockford’s Unsung Hero award. Also in his second season, LeBlanc nearly doubled his goal production from his rookie season as he is tied with Pirri for the team lead in tallies with 23, up from 12 from a season ago. The Hamilton, Ont. native topped his rookie totals in assists (20) and points (43) as well, ranking second on the IceHogs in overall scoring.

Rookie winger Philippe Paradis was named the IceHogs Heavy Hitter for 2011-12. The 6-2, 212-pound winger has been a consistent physical presence during his first full professional season. Paradis has 5g-11a-16pts with 39 PIMs during his rookie campaign.

Recognized by the AHL last week, winger Ben Smith was saluted as Rockford’s Man of the Year as well on Saturday. Smith was given the award for his leadership and commitment to the Rockford community.
