Apparently they will rip up the old contract and replace it with this one. Not sure how this impacts the CB market, but it's probably not really a 30 million/year deal.
This article overcomplicates things. All extensions report the years of the extension and the money for the extension.

The Texans picked up Stingley's 5th year option and thus he is under control for 5 years ie 2 years of his rookie deal and 3 years of the extension.

So the precedent is set that top CBs get 30m AAV in new money.

If they truly "rip it up" though, it's not unlike the Josh Allen deal where his new money is actually quite high in AAV, but they reported the lower annual figure of 55/year (or whatever it was). I think the new money average was in the 80s/year. I guess it all just is how someone wants to look at it.

Go Blue baby. And Fly Eagles Fly. Michigan grad, grew up in Illinois, and am a lifelong Bears fans. But I have lived in the Philly area for 25 years, and my oldest daughter is a die hard Eagles fan, so they are my second team. Have met and had the chance to have conversations with BG, and he is a class act all the way. He will end up with some position within the Eagles organization.

The commitment to fb this offseason is changing my mind on poles but would have rather signed the guy 49ers cut which would have been hard with only 90k cap

Please no more FB handoffs!!!!
One thing that is clear to me is that Poles is like a woman that won't leave an abusive partner, he just does not know when it's time to move on. I guess it's because he remembers how it felt when his soul was crushed getting cut as a player, so it really breaks the guy's heart to say goodbye to these little meaningless investments. I guess it's no big deal since they are just roster filler, but again what's the point here?

Allen's contract is different as it wasnt really an extension but a flat out replacement. Hence why if you look at his contract he has 6 years left. So the 6 year 330m contract is the whole contract.

By contrast, if you look at Stingley, he has 5 total years left because the 3 year extension is being added on to the 2 years already left on his deal.

I presume he likely fills the Skinner role ie the OL that BJ always had as an eligible receiver.

Bears nearly signed Kareem Hunt?

Chicago Bears nearly added another former Pro Bowl talent after hiring Ben Johnson
