I don't want to pit two of our own against each other. I'm done with this.

But Niko is far and away a better ball handler. He can get fouled, his B ball IQ is light years beyond in terms of spacing, and grappling too. He rebounds better but plays further from basket. He is longer. He is smoother athlete.

Portis is blowing him away in selfishness. Something Gasol can't help Niko with. Ports is willing to serve any role and bringing a decent shot for a rookie, along with want to and passion, intensity, focus.

They look like they are both on much different development trajectories, Niko is in sorta a sophmore slump if you will and faced with his limitations for the first time. He will have to come out of it to earn minutes and find a role on this team.

Whats his excuse for throwing up 30 foot 3's like he is Steph Curry?

I don't think he just woke up and started launching those in games one day. It's because he is a pure shooter in the upper echelon of deep shooting talent in the world. He will come around.

So that's another thing he will always be better at than Portis. His current shooting percentage is his coaches fault for not getting him good looks and for not policing the bullshit he hasn't earned in game yet. Perhaps practice is different.

As far as I am concerned this thread is fueled by typical hater Chicago fans that love Portis like they love back up QBs, they don't have a reason to hate yet. They hate Rose, Gasol, and throw in the towel on a season when we are a top 8 team.

Niko is going through a tough transition so he is dead to them. Portis is going to have ups and downs as well. I'm glad they found someone on the team they love.

I'm not a bulls fan. He shoots ridiculous shots instead of moving the ball a lot.

Was that an attempt to add something to the discussion? I already said such several times, and made a thread about Hoiberg being a pussy for allowing it two months ago. Something is very wrong if you don't have to earn your shot selection on this team, if you make 4 3's and that's a 30 foot floor spreading heat check late in shot clock alright, but any coach that lets that go is lame to me and I said as much long before Butler.

Portis and Niko actually have a surprisingly similar skill set, and to be honest I think they may compliment each other quite well in our small lineup playing two stretch 4's with Snell, Butler, Rose and those two you could defend a lot of different looks and be Spursish on offense with 4 shooters and a penetrator.

Together they might be just enough inside to play without a true center.

My issue with Portis is he plays about 6'7 or 8". He has to bend quite a bit for leverage, and has a long neck. He looks much shorter at times than he is because of how his body is built, his shoulder height is equivalent to smaller players, and so therefore the start of his reach is lower. He makes up for this and then some with strength and toughness, and being a good runner.

He has shown excellent close quarter skills down low in his early minutes, and attacks the glass phrenetically on both ends. I like that on offense. Portis is the love child of Noah, Niko, and Kevin Garnett in a bizarre 3 way. I'll take it.

It's nice to have the core of our future offense already figured out. It's possible they are both starting next to each other as early as next year. Noah gasol Gibson could all be gone.

So, you think it is the coaches fault that he is jacking up Steph Curry threes? I have no hate to this guy but you talked about his basketball IQ. You don't need a coach to tell you that 30 foot plus three's dopnt have a high percentage to go in. Also, I feel you are jaded on Portis. Ports athletically kills Niko. I feel like you have never watched Portis in college. He runs the court like a gazelle. Im not saying Niko can not grow and become a better player but right now he is pretty terrible with his decision making. Also, I do not find him as nimble as other Europeans his size. He moves like Dirk. He should emulate Dirk but Dirk is one of the best players of our time. Portis, to me, is an NBA starter for a long time.

What can his shot selection be when they put him at the top of the key all of the time? He is being paid to shoot from there. If he were making them, everything would be fine but he is not and people are bagging on him.

Because they are low percentage shots. I find it hard to believe Hoiberg tells him to stand at the top of the key and host up 30 plus foot shots.

wow, that describes me 100%
I only get upset now when the bulls lose a playoff series, because the last few playoff series were brutal to watch and ended in embarrassing defeats. At least losing in the regular season means you get a better draft pick and a chance at a franchise player that the bulls don't have right now.

Uh Oh... Both Niko & Bobby had good games tonight... Who deserves more minutes? Can Portis grow a monstrous beard? Can Niko develop "crazy eyes"? Will Cameron Bairstow become more than just a towel boy?

These and even more difficult questions must be answered in the new year.

Been disconnected all day, got on Twitter and saw "Bobby Portis" was trending. Came straight here. Disappointed in the lack of convo. Tsk tsk.

Bobby is more proof the Bulls need to make a move. When Noah comes back where do the minutes for Portis go?

Bulls have too many decent players, time to end that long jam.

Yeah they are low percentage shots as compared with lay ups and the like but.... Other than Brooks and McDermott when they are in there, the Bulls do not have a legit three point option and Mirotic can hit them. They do need a threat. Like I said before, I wish that they'd pair him with Noah when he gets back because with Gsol, it clogs up the middle for him to drive and/or dish.

I'm not happy he hit that 35 footer with 8 seconds left in shot clock. Like many young pure shooters we may now have to watch 5 more of these nonsense threes just because that one went in. His shot has been flat this year compared to footage from Spain and last year. Its not coming off as soft or upright. He used to just come around screens and go straight up. He is both leaning forward now and spreading his feet, I think its why he wants that extra space in front of him, forcing him to step back a few extra feet to get looks.

He had a good shooting night from distance, and continues to add intangibles with his defensive grabbling and floor hustle. I am glad Holberg identified the same thing I did, that Portis and Mirotic are actually a complimentary tandem paired with a smaller scoring lineup.

That Brooks/Butler/McDermot/Portis/Mirotic line-up has a lot of firepower, it will be interesting if we see a healthy Rose swapped into that.

Pay attention when its out there, its also a glimpse into the Bulls future.
