How do you know Jackson won't be good? How do you know that he won't be on the opening day roster next year? How do you know that Byrd will have been traded?

etc.

I am not assuming Byrd will be traded. If he is, then sure. IF he is willing to take a HUGE pay cut.

I don't! No one knows! But you talk like Jackson is going to be the greatest thing since sliced bread and you just don't know that. Yes, if Byrd isn't traded and BJax and Colvin live up to expectations, we won't have a need for Fuke. But that's not likely. I hope I am wrong and we won't need Fukkake, but that just isn't likely.

No, I don't. I talk about him like the is going to be the greatest thing since Starlin Castro.

If he is willing to take a pay cut I'd love to keep Fuk around. Great D and OBP guy. He'd be a fantastic 4th outfielder and injury insurance policy. I don't really see how anyone could disagree with this?

I'm not disputing that he'd be a good backup outfielder. But where do you all get that he'd be willing to take a big pay cut?

Except we have nothing suggesting he will take a significant pay cut. Maybe he thinks he should be a starter somewhere and wants start money.

Yeah but that's not what were saying. We're saying if he takes a paycut, were all for it. But if not, fuck him then.

I'm talking with what we know.

Where does anybody get that he'll be taking $5 Million or less like CO suggested? Or if Jackson comes up and does good and wins a starting spot, will he come back to warm the bench anyway?

What part of not being a starter, didn't you get? He would be a damn good 4th OFer.

Why have you turned on Fuke? Or do I even want to know?

@Everybody: How much would you pay him to stay past this year? I'd say no more than 5 million/year

Never been a big fan of him he's to inconsistent. As far as pay anywhere from 1-5 million as a backup outfielder. Nobody is going to sign him as a starter at 14 million bucks a year

5 Million is too much for a backup IMO. I wouldn't pay any backup more than 3 Million.

Yeah well unless your Jimbo it really doesn't matter does it? Thats my take on him. if he doesn't expect a major pay cut then he needs to go back to Japan and never come back

Never said I was JH. But in no way does a bench player deserve 5 Million per year. No Way.

No one is saying that he WILL take a pay cut just IF he were than those would be the terms we'd feel comfortable resigning on.

The fact that he publicly said he wants to stay says he would be willing to take a pay cut IMO. How much? Idk but I'd pay him $5MM easy. Chances are with off days and probable injuries he'd play quite a few games anyway.

Even the proposed $5 Million is too much for a bench player.

If it is $3 Million, then fine.

But I keep hearing people wanting us to spend on Fielder or Pujols, but then they want to throw $5 Million of that money at a bench player?

There's a difference between spending and spending wisely.

If it is $3 Million, then fine.

Don't expect Pujols then if we are throwing $5 Million at a bench player.

Still doesn't mean he'd take a pay cut. Pujols now wants full pay even though he wants to be a Cardinal.

The difference is, Pujols deserves the money and Kosuke does not deserve his current salary and I'm sure he and his agent know that.

$5 mil to Fukudome doesn't make or break a deal with Pujols.

Does when we already may not be able to afford him and fill the holes.

If the Cubs aren't willing to increase payroll it is pointless to get Pujols.
