Speaking of Crawford, does concussion protocol not apply to goaltenders? Crawford was knocked silly when that puck hit him in the head. He could hardly stand up, and was using the net to keep himself on his feet... I mean, he had to be concussed, right?

Or maybe he was high on pills and drunk and that shot sobered him up?

So Crawford was shit early in the Nashville series, but Darling was good at the end of the Nashville series, and it was the D's fault?

Exactly. Goalie gives up shit goals....and the defence sucks. Goalie has 30 saves...and he carried the team/bailed out the D

Just because the goalie gave up a shit goal doesn't mean that the D is absolved for shitting the bed on the play leading up to the shit goal--or vice-versa. The two are mutually exclusive. Let's be honest here: the Goaltending sucked in the 1st period of game 1, game 2, game 5, and the 1st period of game 6. The Team D sucked in game 1, game 2, game 5, and the 1st period of game 6.

This series I don't thinink the goaltending was inherenly bad for any major stretch, but the Team D mailed in the 2nd of game 1.

I think expectations, however, can't be mutually exclusive. Case in point for both game 2's: If you expect Crawford to play like a 2-time Jennings winner (didn't in game 2 of Nashville, did in Game 2 of Minny), you have to also expect Keith to play like a 2-time Norris winner (didn't in game 2 of Nashville, did in game 2 of Minny). In no way, shape, or form do we win the cup--possibly this year or either of our past cups in the current Hockey era, with any aspect of the team playing bad and another aspect sheltering it. Even in 2010 you can argue that the team D was lights out but it wasn't like Niemi was as bad as Huet--he was "good enough", and the lowest any aspect of our team this year can be is "good enough". We got incredibly lucky against Nashville that the O bailed us out (especially since the O was absent the last few games of the season).

yeah, crow gave up a bad goal to dumbo, but he made 5 or 6 great saves of wild players wide open in/near the paint or on breakaways, that would've have been the d-men's faultsz, not crow's.

His helmet was dented from that shot, after the game he said he can't even use it anymore. He should've been taken off to be evaluated but this is the Hawks we're talking about, they've done stupid shit like this before in those situations.

Wasn't the one who brought it up. It's almost not even worth mentioning anymore with how poorly the Hawks have handled it over the years.

Because its not strictly a Hawks issue. Its an NHL issue. Goalies get dinged in the head all the time by pucks, get their masks dented, get a little dizzy, dont get escorted off the ice and don't get taken to the back. Comments like those Variable throwing just the Hawks under the bus, no other NHL team, is why some around here question if you ever watch other teams or games. Because this is anything but rare around the league.

But i think Craws okay regardless and pretty much showed that he was after the incident. Not sure if you have ever put a goalie helmet on and been hit with an object while wearing it esp at the side of the mask where Craw was hit. It makes your ears ring and that fucks up you equilibrium for a bit. Pretty standard and happens to goalies quit a bit during games. Doesnt mean a goalie is concussed. If anything Craw should have been examined quickly to see if his ear drum was still intact.

But i digress i believe in concussion protocol and better safe than sorry. But just dont make it strictly a Hawks issue when its more so a league issue and when it happens to all goalies on all teams and they handle it the exact same way.

Not sure if it was a bad goal. It did appear to deflect off the defenders stick. Those are typically goals that goalies do not like. Wouldnt say it was unstoppable though. I dont really believe any shots are unstoppable anyways. just lower percentage save possible shots. God knows we have all seen thousands upon thousands of shots that probably were not saveable..but were saved.

Trippy shit man.

Shiiit it's not even just an NHL issue. It's a pro sports issue. Well, at least any sports with a lot of contact.

The NFL has the biggest problem of all, though, because it's the very nature of the sport that's causing the long-term brain damage to its players. In the NHL, the majority of the guys (from what I've seen, at least) who have issues later in life are former enforcers, and that's a significantly smaller portion of its player population than that of the NFL.

But, yeah, concussion protocol in the NHL continues to be shit. I just don't see that changing any time soon. People don't care about this stuff enough.

THERE'S A FUCKING REASON GOALIES WHERE FIBERGLASS MASKS THAT COVER THEIR WHOLE FUCKING HEAD

Catchers get 100mph foul balls ricocheting off their catcher's mask every game and no one says a word.

Stop being the biggest giant puss in the universe.

I spent a lot of time getting lacrosse balls off the side of my helmet. I turned out fine. Right?

Its an ear ringer. Thats all it is. More concerned that Craws ear drum and hammer werent working death metal overtime after that one. Had he been concussed he wouldnt have even been able to skate over to the bench to grab his other helmet and put it on.

Im all for better league wide concussion protocol though as i think we all are but shit you cant just haul guys off the ice everytime they get in the head with something. Some fans are just to quick to think the worst. And some have never been dinged in the side of the head by a lacrosse ball, a puck, a baseball, a soccer ball, etc etc..dont know what ear ringers are and how those **** up your equilibrium for a short period. Has to be a concussion though..has to be!!

Definitely true. There's definitely a happy medium between the current concussion protocol and taking a guy off the ice everytime they get hit in the head.

But the way Crawford initially reacted to that slap shot led me to believe that was more than just an ear-ringer. When he stumbled over backwards and fell to the ice soon after that puck hit him in the head, that's when I believed something was up.

I get Grim's point about them wearing those masks for a reason, but how often do goalies actually take slappers directly to the head as Craw did in Game 2? I can only think of one this entire postseason, and it's the incident we're currently discussing.
