Give it one episode.... if it hooks you in I think you will find an enjoyable show to pass time when you have some free.
Its good enough that it got me to buy the books and start reading the written story the show is based on.

I'd say 3 episodes. I think the way the first one ends either can turn people off because it is so shocking or pull them in.
That is exactly what happened to me. I had to know more. I have a coworker that has read the books and it is fun to bounce the series against the books and to compare what we liked better. What I mean by that is there are things the series has done better and vice versa. I ended up spoiling the series but I don't mind. I actually cheated. I've never "read" the books. I read them with my ears. lol. I have the audiobooks. I have about a 35 min commute into work and I listened to them sped up by about 40% because it is an old guy reading.
Fun fact. That pyromancer in the series is the narrator of the audiobooks. He was supposed to play Pycell I believe but that didn't work out.

Its an issue with tv ratings. Yes something as completely gay as tv ratings caused no episode on Memorial day weekend. Two years ago the ratings took a nose dive on this weekend so last year they dropped the episode that week and again this year.
