Finally got to the garden yesterday. I think we had three days of sunshine in May.

Planted pumpkins where I had the watermelon and butternuts last year. Added Sugar Peas to both beds with a small lattice as well. Never grown them before, not sure what to expect, but that's half the fun!

AWESOME. I will update this week with pics. I already have eaten spinach, arugula, two strawberries and many various herbs. The herbs are our of contol this year - oregano is in huge turf war with my lemon thyme and chives. Tarragon is an up and coming challenger, dill needs to pick up its game and the cilantro decided to start growing outside of the bed because of all of this herb drama.

I'm actually having issues with my herbs.. they won't grow beyond their initial sprout. I dont know why.

In the ground I have cucumbers, zucchini, tomatoes, lettuce, and kale.

If I want to grow anything else it'll have to be in pots since I'm out of space.

Sounds like your soil isn't loamy enough maybe. Try adding in a little sand maybe?

Sand would be less useful, maybe try actual organic matter or raise the pots if in pots. Make sure you don't have any clumps of soil, large stones or clay mixed in as it stops the draining process. Sand tends to try out the root quite quickly so can cause more damage than good. Only in herbs mind you, I would know about proper flowers or large crops or that kind of thing.

:)

I built herb boxes on the new fence. I'll post the rest of the garden later.

I think the issue is I used gardening soil instead of potting mix. There is organic matter in the gardening soil mixed in...

We live in a clay rich area where I am from, so we had to start from scratch, it's a fine balance but worth persevering when you get a fine bunch of herbs to use when you cook etc. I am proud of my little garden although I am having problems with something eating it. Thought it was greenfly, but might be something else ... Anyway, keep going, good herbs grown by yourself are shedloads better than store bought :)

Awesome man. I was thinking maybe I could do something like this attached to my deck.

I have our broccoli in pots, and are elevated on spare retaining wall bricks at the moment. I need to see how aggressive the rabbits will be this year.
They leave mostly everything else alone. Those little bastards got to all of my watermelon last year.

Trying to do green beans this summer. Two different kinds. The weather has been perfect for flowers, let's see what it will do for our tomatoes, peppers, cucumbers and zucchini.

We did pickles last year. Turned out well.

I really hope it starts to warm up.. weather lately hasn't been too good for tomatoes or peppers. Its still quite early though.

I planted everything except the peppers in early May. Finally planted one pepper in a pot last night. Still have 10 more plants (with not enough room for them either I don't think). I'll probably end up giving most of those to my mother to grow since she has a green house and much more room in the yard (Given I live in a town house).
