I've been following this thread as I'm a gardener as well. Bravo to all of you. We moved into a new place last fall (our dream home!) and I got a super late start to making the garden. I had to remove nearly 5 tons of rocks to make room. Rototilled, new soil, ran irrigation up and through each of the raised beds (paid a pro to do it). Now it's hooked up to the sprinkler system in the garage. It's so nice. When I'm at work, or the wifey is busy with the babies, it just waters itself. It's been a learning experience though. Having to constantly add more soil because I planted on a bad slope or adjusting the water etc... Next year will be the real year now that everything is setup. I don't expect to get anything from the vine plants because I started too late, but it's good to know I can grow them from seed in my new space.
Next one will be a strawberry patch. Didn't spread, but it will next year!
The next one is tomatoes with some onions and carrots intermixed. I had low expectations based on when I planted so I just threw them in their to see how my new soil reacted.
Butternut squash on the right, watermelon on the left. Random cucumber and tomato plant in the middle:
