It's been a successful off-season. We're still a couple pieces away, but our pitching is solid, our bullpen is better, and if Pena can hit .260 w/ his normal power, we will have fixed first base.

Still need to get rid of Fuku and Colvin, imo...for a guy that can hit regardless of who is pitching...but I'm satisfied w/ the off-season, when things seemed bleak at first.

Archer - Garza Replaces him I guess, and there was little room for him AND McNutt in the rotation anyway.
Lee - 2B aren's hard to find, and I like Castro at SS. I'm fine with DeWitt until the deadline or the offseason.
Guyer - With Szczur picking baseball apparently, I don't care much. Sori will still be here until 2014 anyway. And Byrd till 2012, and we have Colvin, Jackson, and Szczur ahead of him anyway.
Chirinos - We have Geo and Castillo bahead of him. Only downside is that he was key to an O'Day deal.
Fuld - Who gives a shit?

Garza - No ace, but decent for a #2, good for a #3.
Perez - Wrote "The Fabulous Bastards", and he has a chance to rebound his career and get back to where he was as a prospect.
Rosscup - Never played above A-, so we'll see.

So, I guess I like the trade now that I've analyzed it more.

Hendry said he won't trade Colvin. But then again, he said that about Archer too.

The only think I'm bummed about is that Sam Fuld was traded. Which is an odd thing to say, I know, but he was incredibly exciting to watch. He always hustled and although he would never hit for quite the power, I would have liked to see him play LF in 2013 after Fonzie's contract expires.

I think if Garza gets 13-14 wins and stays healthy, it's not a bad deal at all.

Did he say he wouldn't trade Archer? I don't recall.

No. No. No. No. No.

lol, Sori's contract goes through 2014.

And he said the following wouldn't be traded before:
Castro
later he added
Cashner
then he later added
Colvin
then later yet again he added
Archer and
Jackson

Wait. 2015. Seriously?

FUUUUUU.

Where was I getting 2012 then? End of the world?

What's wrong with 14 wins out of Garza? This is keeping in mind that for a very large portion of last season, the Cubs couldn't pay to score a runner in scoring position.

The fact that you used wins.

wins will play a role in his arb, that is for sure. they arent used to judge a pitchers talent, but say he wins 20 games with a 4.09 ERA...he still will get paid well. cub fans better hope he has an off year this year

So what, just look at ERA, K/9 and BB/9 then?

I get that wins aren't a completely accurate depiction of how a pitcher's season is, but it's the most tangible thing to look at.

No, it's not. Wins do not show how a pitcher pitched. It showed how the team did. A pitcher can get 20 wins with a 5.00 ERA. Does that make him good? Or does that make him lucky? A pitcher can get 5 wins with a 3.00 ERA. Does that make him bad? Or does that make him lucky?
