what the cubs franchise did this offseason, was brilliant.....corrected the bad PR, and got fans believing again. from the business side, just brilliant....again, for the fans not so much.

cubs give false hope.

cubs give false hope.

This is why I never become a serious Cubs fan. The Cubs ownership will never really have to worry about assembling a great baseball team, even if the Cubs had back to back 100 loss seasons, Wrigley would still sell out everyday, be on ESPN and FOX on a regular basis and the fans will travel, and will make money. And if it ain't broke, why fix it?

I became a Sox fan headed into 2004.

In no particular order:

Cardinals are not the team they were, but certainly still a solid club.

Reds are a young team, a team that is the defending division champions, and will only get better.

Brewers have a solid rotation, bullpen and a good-enough offense.

Cubs have a good rotation, but an aging core and not the team they were in 2008.

I'm not saying the Cubs have 0% chance, far from it, but even with Garza I think the competition will be greater than what the Cubs can offer barring injuries to everyone else and/or career years from a few Cubs players.

I never said the cubs are the favorite and they certainly are not but who knows.. I think the division is going to be pretty tight.... I think the cubs can hang around.

Not exactly true.. The seats were not close to full the last couple months of the season... Most of those seats were already paid for but still the fans didn't show.

I think so too, just IMO not to very end. Cubs can easily be into the race till Mid August/early September

Hey if I didn't have any emotion tied into it i would hope they were out of it by June so they could trade some assets but like you i think they'll hang around.

so true. i go to cubs games all the time to see other NL teams that I never get to see, and I look around and observe, and just roll my eyes. than i get jealous, not because of the sox attendance, but how awesome it must be to own a team, and be able to fill your park no matter how bad the team is. sure there were a few games last year that werent sell outs, but who cares when the majority of the games are sold out, and if there are no shows...oh well, a small loss in concessions in a real big picture.

Jim Hendry is just trying to save his job when he should've been canned years ago.

I've always hated the majority or cubs fans but I'll take the money that comes in but why does hendry deserve to be fired? He's made some good moves and some bad but what GM hasn't made his fair share of bad moves?

Look under press releases at cubs.com.

Cubs also receive OF Fernando Perez and LHP Zachary Rosscup, send Pitcher Chris Archer, Catcher Robinson Chirinos, IF Jak-Ju Lee, OF Sam Fuld and Brandon Guyer to Rays

Now that the shock has calmed down, and we know the whole trade, and it's official, post your final reaction here.

Mine's coming up.

I think its a fine trade, I just don't get it. We already have 6 SPs (Dempster, Zambrano, Wells, Gorzy, Silva, and Cashner) and they really aren't slouches. Our starters ERA last year was 4.00 which wasn't the problem with this team last year. It was middle of the pack but thats pretty good for playing in an offensive park. We did though have the second worst reliever ERA. Our relievers were terrible. Our bullpen had 27 losses last year!

I just don't get the reasoning behind this trade I guess. Now we HAVE to move Silva and are not going to get any value for him. Is Garza really going to be much better than Silva? Regardless the deal I think is pretty fair. I don't like giving up Lee, but I guess we will be okay.

I just don't think this makes us any better in 2011, and that's my issue with the deal.

Why should he have been canned? Any reason? Hendry is a fine GM.

He isn't perfect but he is certainly above average.

While I agree that he's an above average GM.. I do think his footing on his job security is starting to slip..
