you guys are right that tmac is better than vc, but like it was mentioned, he played on crap teams and didnt get the publicity he deserved. vc earned his popularity thru highlight reels of athleticism and the ridiculous dunk contest that won. if a national poll was taken, id put my money on vc being more popular.

all that aside, i still wouldnt mind him coming to chicago. (didnt mean to hijack this thread with the small market-big market argument).

Amen Rev. Stig!

No T-Mac isn't getting All-Star votes just because the Chinese know him... He's getting voted just for his name...

You mean like AI or Vince Carter do? There name does that, not Yao Ming. People in China have probably never seen Tmac play.

Houston is a small market, they don't have the resources of a NY, Chicago (not that we use them anyway), or LA.

China gets Rockets games...they know who TMac is...they even know who Michael Redd is because Yi's games with the Bucks were broadcast over there too. Playing with Yao helps and definitely doesn't hurt.

It doesn't hurt but lets not kid ourselves. Tmac didn't get in because of him. He gets votes because of his name, same reason that shaq, ai and carter get big time votes, even when injured.

There are plenty of highlights of tmac doing crazy dunks. btw, you keeping talking about vc winning his one dunk contest but you don't remember who he beat. I'd also say that two scoring titles and about 3 times as many all nba team selections make up for a loss in the slam dunk contest. Its a shame they didn't stay together, they could have made Toronto really good.

Sorry Frank but T-Mac IS getting ALOT of votes because the Chinese know him & he plays for Yao's team. He hasn't had this many votes since the 06-07 season.

i know tmac has his share of highlights and whatnot, im just saying that IMO i feel vc is more popular than tmac STATESIDE.

and my original point earlier, was that houston may be a small market here in the US, but playing next to yao will get you a lot of recognition not just in the US but in china too, where 1/4 of the worlds entire population lives, and 80%-90% of them know and love yao. if a mid-tier FA (like joe johnson for example) gets himself over to houston, his popularity would multiply many times over in china and worldwide (lebron and kobe wont see much of an increase since they are already worldwide brands). as long as yao plays for houston, i wouldnt call them a small market team

I'm just saying Houston are in the same position as we are ... they'll probably strike out but it's worth a try to go for a FA. I don't think Hinrich or Salmons are worth giving up that shot for.

Salmons won't cost them all of their cap space and paying scola will take them out of max range anyway.

They'd obviously use Scola as plan B like we're doing with Tyrus, ie only pay him if they strike out on a max free agent.

TT is not plan B. I can guarantee you he is not coming back. We didn't even offer him a contract this summer. He wasn't even worth a low ball to management.

We didn't offer Chandler an extension then signed him at the end of his rookie deal. Not offering a player an extension before you have to doesn't mean they're not coming back.

But they are a small market. They never spend for a contender despite having two superstars. Houston has always played small ball and only reall shelled out the big bucks when they had Hakeem. Even then they had charles barkley for peanuts. They are like a Detoit, they just don't have the fan base or assets of the big buys.

They had talks with Tyson. They just were far apart. The bulls didn't even talk to Tyrus. They didn't even offer him a low ball deal. Tyrus isn't plan A or B. If we miss out on the main guys, I am sure we will go after someone like David Lee instead.

Well assuming the price is remotely similar, David Lee is better than Tyrus, so I wouldn't be upset with that. I just don't think Tyrus is certainly gone, it's more that we didn't want to add salary that we didn't look to make a deal. Admittedly Tyrus doesn't seem to be in favor, but we'll be getting a new coach, who knows which guys he'll like.

You may very well be right. But I would give it a 5% chance tops that TT is a bull after the year. Even if Salmons opts in, David Lee is still affordable. I would say he gets a deal similar to Milsaps.
