Ghana are decent but not in the same league as the top teams. Neither Germany or Portugal will be losing much sleep at the prospect of playing either of these teams after watching that game.

Rankings aren't weighted properly for competition with FIFA unfortunately, so are always skewed. The US isn't a top 13 team by a long shot.

Portugal really is nothing to be scared about though. I think USA can definitely get a draw, which is basically what they need.

Portugal were made to look bad by Germany in the same way as the Bears were made to look bad by the Patriots in 2010. But the Bears were still a playoff team and able to take care of the .500 and below teams no prob. That's how Portugal will be going into the Ghana and US games.

This is the same Portugal that could not beat Israel in two qualifying matches, or Northern Ireland in another match. They couldn't beat out Russia for direct qualification. They just don't impress me and I'm not even a USA supporter.

They'll be a different team in crunch WC matches, I promise you. They're not an elite team but they have more quality in their lineup than Ghana or the US. That's not to say that the US or Ghana can't tie with them or even upset them, but they'll both be underdogs.
And why aren't you a USA supporter? You're American, aren't you?

I'll agree that the perspective of the game won't change, Portugal will enter both games as favorites. I have them losing to Ghana and drawing with the US.

Agreed and same here. Even Bosnia were competitive with Argentina and showed promise in their defeat. Portugal looked flat out awful and outmatched.

That's more about how insanely good Germany are. Pretty much everyone outside of the Netherlands, France, Argentina, Brazil and Italy are going to be seriously outmatched by this German team.

Germany was my favorite team in FIFA 94 for the Sega Genesis. I loved that game. You could shove people to the ground and get a red card but run around and the official would chase you all over the field, good time to drink beer, he couldn't catch you until you stopped running around like a jackass.

Yes and no. Germany is a great team and they were on today there is no denying that but Portugal will need a lot more from Ronaldo to compensate for a mainly underwhelming roster if they are going to advance.

Why the **** is everyone hear pissing down their pants over Portugal. Portugal struggled to beat Mexico in their final send off game. Ronaldo's health is questionable. Their best defender (Pepe) won't be able to play because of a red card. And I'm wondering about the mental state of the team given that they have a 4 goal differential they now have to make up.
USA doesn't appear to be in the best health either but I think they are absolutely capable of playing a defensive game and escaping with a draw. It will be a challenge but can certainly be done. The team is in much better shape than many thought they would be.
