You draft enough weapons so teams have to account for everyone in most formations.

Its a tough concept for Bears fans to understand when management tries have more than 2 good players on offense

That's my hope. I wasn't being extreme enough pushing for offense because I was trying to bend for the "only defense" crowd.

I'm positive the "only defense" "only high" crowd was wrong and you simply can't have 1st rounders at every position on one side of the ball. I know Flus draft policy was extremely bad.
BJ's draft policy checked some needed depth on both sides of line boxes. While the amount of weapons may be a foreign concept we're giving it a try whether we like it or not. At least those of us who have been wanting an offense should be open to it. This could be how it's done and we've just never seen it.

I would have drafted DL @10 and I have no idea why they picked a wr @ 39. I also know that im football stupid compared to BJ and Big P
We're all football stupid compared to all GMs and coaches but most of them still wind up being bad and getting fired.

And that will always happen. I seriously think we have a few armchair GM’s here who actually think they would be better. It’s hilarious to me.

Nothing Ben does matters unless he’s got a running game. Swift ain’t it.
I would have liked the right RB at the right spot, and wanted Henderson at 39. But I am glad they're not hell bent on drafting a specific position due to perceived need.

Nothing is going to make Swift bigger, stronger, faster, shiftier.....so I am not going to pretend he is more skilled suddenly. He is not. He is who he is, and that's certainly not top tier.

However as for the running game itself, I would hope at least that three new IOL and more downfield weapons and an OL coach who is not Chris Morgan and a play caller who is not Shane Waldron would all be considered improvements, even before/without a step up in personnel.

And while not part of what we're considering the traditional running game, I think Burden offers something running the ball on gadget plays as well.

I would still like a RB depending on how things fall, but not just to say we got on. A small improvement over R. Johnson isn't necessarily worth passing on another position. But B. Tuten and his speed would be fun, even though we apparently already have "too many weapons".

Fair point. But I still think it’s hilarious.
This place is insane. We literally have a poster who called Bagents dad a Douchebag and loved the Ravens picking a rapist all within a few minutes. It’s literally nuts

Well, Bagent's dad is a douchebag (have you seen the previous threads on him>?) and Green was never charged of any crime. I sure wanted Green and Baltimore will be the ones laughing.

Carry on.

If the Ravens or Eagles draft a guy they immediately "crushed it", even if the same fans would have been critical of the Bears drafting the same guy. Perfect example was Philly's 1st rounder. No Bears fan would have wanted that LB at 39, but Philly "got richer" at 31.

It's a bit of FOMO. And we all can do it at times. Say there's a OL with good size but allegedly slow feet. Bears draft him and we think "Good size, but his feet are slow." Vikings draft him, and "His feet aren't quick, but man, he's got great size." Some of that is human nature, but it can get taken to crazy levels.

Bottom line is even GMs can't tell you for certain who is going to excel, and we all should know that. If it were so predictable, there'd be no looking back and "re-drafting" a prior year because the talent and producion on the field would exactly match the draft order. It ain't that simple!

They didn't draft Stewart. They drafted Shemar Turner.
Like this Turner lad's attitude though. He's the kind of player you hate playing against. Bears need more like that in the DL. Not sure it's enough we'll see.

I'm not going to fault any GM for not wanting a rapist. And the NFL can punish guys for off teh field stuff, so you risk losing availibility in addition to just jhaving a terrible person.

"He was never charged" means little. There are a million examples of guys abusing/assaulting/raping women and charges getting dropped mysteriously. It's a big money business. Make the problem mysteriously go away and cash in.

If you're literally OK with a guy like that and worried anout the dad of a professional football palyer, rethink your stance. Dad has zero impact on anything. Only fans give a shit about Bagent's dad's twitter account.

If the reports that Burden was just clearly the far superior talent available at the time of the pick, then so be it and I hope it all works out.

I was happy with the trade down and then addressing the trenches with the other two 2nd round picks. At the very least, that adds much needed depth.

So, I would say solid, but not spectacular drafting so far.

A blind pig throwing darts could do better than the last 40 years of Bears football. It's hard to have watched it and think we were watching the best football minds.
This is a great example of the ridiculous takes he is referring to. You judge the 2025 draft based on a different GM's choices in 2015.
If saying "History shows it's a crap shoot", that's fair. But "They" always do "this" is a ridiculous and inaccurate stance.

I get it but I’d like to hear opinions on what should have been done specifically.
You won't really get that. There is a contingent here that wants only OL/DL and don't care who the players even are. Another contingent who want the same, but then don't want the players that were chosen, and then some who hate Poles and no matter what all decisions are wrong. Then the weirdest group, the Fields stans who hate Poles because he ruined their favorite player and will enact revenge.

For once the Bears prioritized offense and we as Bears fans don't know how to handle it. Truth is, with both schemes changing there was always going to be a different approach. It's hilarious leaving this site and reading analysts who understand what Johnson and Allen are trying to do.. will it all work, who knows? I'm all in in Johnson though and excited, because he got two immensely talented players with the first two picks.

The emotional roller coaster of the draft is the fun part. I always get wrapped up in it, but I always feel better about the draft when viewed as a whole. I want to see Trapilo and Kiran in preseason.

Very well said.

If a rival team had picked what the Bears picked at 10 and 39 there would be many claiming how great they did. But they complain that the Bears did it.

And yes the Fields fans actually hate adding weapons now because we didn't properly add them for Fields. Even though they were crying for protection at that time. Therefore nothing Poles does can ever be OK.
