I've recently started more unsweetened Almond Milk but that's more a calorie cut than anything.

Processed foods aren't inherently bad for you. It's a moderation issue. Most studies where they find "ZOMG MILK WILL KILL YOU" involve people ingesting so far beyond what the normal human can and would ingest it makes the study nearly meaningless.

I agree.... also I lol'd at that part

It's not that processed foods are bad for you exactly, it's just that they're not very good for you. Especially if you can find a fresh and/or organic equivalent.

What is scary about milk from unknown sources, is the hormones fed to the cows to lactate more. One of the worst, not the worst, prosilac, was cut down tremendously about 5 years ago in milk production. But that's not the only one.

I tried it at one of my friends house and will never go back to store bought milk. I've never had goat milk though. Does it taste similar to cow milk?

If nobody told you it was goat milk, you really wouldn't notice.

Organic foods are one of the biggest scams. There's virtually zero evidence showing they are "better" for you than regular processed foods. People who are buying organic are paying a premium for no real purpose at this point.

Yeah, as long as you believe herbicides and pesticides don't cause cancer, that's just great. I agree that the organic mafia has a pretty high vig, but that doesn't change the science that toxins are toxic...

I agree, but things are starting to look pretty fucked up as far as our food supply. GMO's are a very recent and very unstudied phenomenon. Veggies engineered to withstand more effective production chemicals may not sound like a harmful thing to posters like FirstTimer, but I am skeptical that it's good for us to consume more and more poisons just for the sake of cheaper food sources.

There's also been plenty of studies on the rapid decline of nutritional value in the food we grow since the 50's. Not only that, the ways in which food is processed for better shelf life robs the food of nutrition, cooking it before we take it home and cook it again. It's great for filling our bellies, but with what?

Getting back to grassfed beef...

Cows are meant to graze and eat grass. They get sick from eating corn, the primary food used in the cattle industry in the US and Canada. They get sick from confinement. They get antibiotics to fight off the illness so they can be successfully brought to market. It's pretty disgusting.

My family raises cattle in fields where they eat what they choose. The operation is relatively young and we've only slaughtered just over 100 animals over the last few years, but we've NEVER had to use any supplements to their diets, treated any illness or had an animal just die on us. NOT ONE. The beef is superior in terms of health as well, leaner with the fat being of a much higher quality than feedlot beef. There's a professor/ex-cardiologist at the University of Miami that even endorses it as such. But it's not a really a scientific endeavor at all for us even though we get a premium for our product on basis of consumer health interests. It's just a simple thing: healthy cattle produce tastier, higher quality beef and they are super easy to maintain. And super easy to grill up and serve with a little pride, that these cows lived pretty nice lives before they ended up on your plate.

Please don't take this as some sort of sales pitch either. We will never be able to keep up with the demand, the way we do things...

BTW, I pay same/better prices for organic, than people pay at Walmart for GMO produce. I do not like Whole Foods, their prices are outrageous. Unfortunately, I know how a market works, so I'm not going to explain how to save money here out of my own selfishness.

Yeah as long as you ignore every scientific study right now that says there's no proof that organic>processed in any substantial way.

LOL at "toxins are toxic". Did you even read the link I posted all the way? "Organic" foods produce toxins as well.

Whatever. Keep paying more. The science at this point doesn't back up the claims that organic is "better for you"

Didnt read. I dont pay more. I just dont eat shitty food produced 100s of miles away that's fed by cropdusters. Why does that upset you?

Because to him there's no scientific proof that processed food is shitty.

If you're not paying a premium, good for you, but I doubt it.

well, that's dumb. take a can of tomatoes and do some fucking science on them vs. some fresh tomatoes, i'm sure there's some proof there.

better yet, take some canned sauerkraut and science that shit next to some kraut you fermented in your basement. Both are processed, one is scientifically more nutrient rich.

**** him.

:obama:

The point is there has been research done is there is virtually zero nutritional/"better"/"healthy" difference to this point.

You're wrong.

what are we comparing here?

yes, I do pay more for fresh spinach than canned spinach. That canned stuff is gross.

so cooking vegetables doesn't change their nutritional value?

not sure if serious...

....

Cooking any vegetable (organic or not) changes it's nutrional value.

If you have two tomatoes just picked off the vine sitting on a shelf, one organically grown, the other is GMO/herbicies/pesticide whatever grown; all the present scientific research says there is virtually zero difference between them.

You comparing canned tomatoes to a fresh tomato is Special person.
