Something needs to balance us out..... so many old as **** people who don't die anymore.... Ommy is like 250 years old isn't he?
I agree, but things are starting to look pretty fucked up as far as our food supply. GMO's are a very recent and very unstudied phenomenon. Veggies engineered to withstand more effective production chemicals may not sound like a harmful thing to posters like FirstTimer, but I am skeptical that it's good for us to consume more and more poisons just for the sake of cheaper food sources.
There's also been plenty of studies on the rapid decline of nutritional value in the food we grow since the 50's. Not only that, the ways in which food is processed for better shelf life robs the food of nutrition, cooking it before we take it home and cook it again. It's great for filling our bellies, but with what?
Getting back to grassfed beef...
Cows are meant to graze and eat grass. They get sick from eating corn, the primary food used in the cattle industry in the US and Canada. They get sick from confinement. They get antibiotics to fight off the illness so they can be successfully brought to market. It's pretty disgusting.
My family raises cattle in fields where they eat what they choose. The operation is relatively young and we've only slaughtered just over 100 animals over the last few years, but we've NEVER had to use any supplements to their diets, treated any illness or had an animal just die on us. NOT ONE. The beef is superior in terms of health as well, leaner with the fat being of a much higher quality than feedlot beef. There's a professor/ex-cardiologist at the University of Miami that even endorses it as such. But it's not a really a scientific endeavor at all for us even though we get a premium for our product on basis of consumer health interests. It's just a simple thing: healthy cattle produce tastier, higher quality beef and they are super easy to maintain. And super easy to grill up and serve with a little pride, that these cows lived pretty nice lives before they ended up on your plate.
Please don't take this as some sort of sales pitch either. We will never be able to keep up with the demand, the way we do things...
