If it was 50 cents a mile, the Government wouldn't have to force people to buy them or "market" them. They would be flying off the lots.
No one is against the idea of electric cars, the technology just isn't there yet and people should have a choice.
http://www.scientifi...cost-per-charge
well this article is quoting a study stating some electric cars could operate at the equivilence of 75 cents per gallon.
People are getting the choice. Again 1.5 million Californians probably will chose to buy them anyways as more legit information becomes available to the consumer and as the technology improves (which it will). You guys aren't thinking logistics here you are running on gutt reactions. Again there are over 26 million passanger vehicles in the state of California. 1.5 mandated electric cars will not be a difficult quota to fill as the demand for electric cars from the populace of California is already there (waiting for the technology to become better isn't something new for any technological advancements..the first fuel powered vehicles weren't exactly hot shit either. Technology can't improve if you don't give it the chance to.). Also these electric cars do not have to come all from the consumer either as I stated before (there is nothing in this legislation that suggests that it all has to be consumer based). Vehicles used for manicipal government use, buses, manicipal events (Vancouver mandated hybrids and electric vehicles for the Olypmics because it was cheaper and these vehicles are still used for manicipal purposes), etc etc are all helpfull and realistic ways of hitting the quota.
Thinking outside of the box is one way that these sort of technology changes can and should happen. The States is full of creative and wise people, look at all the advancements you guys have made in science and technology (and yes many of those advancements have come from mandates, legislation, taxing etc etc). Let them explore the options and let them explore the possibilities with these electric vehicles and work the kinks out along the way (that's the only way advancements can be made and the kinks to be worked out). Otherwise you guys are going to be left behind on a great investment and economical opportunity. Job creation, increased infrustructure, etc etc. There are positives to these sort of changes if you take a little gamble.
Fuel based vehicles are not going to be going away in georaphical areas where they are needed and in job markets where they are needed. 1.5 million electric cars on the road in the state of California is a reasonable and realistic number that can be accomplished without the idea or fear of "forced to purchase" coming into play.
I still say way to go California!! I think this is an intelligent and progressive step in todays times.
And again....it just allows us to sell you more power. I'm thinking Canadian economics here more so than environmental (even thought he 2 go hand in hand in this province, as much does in the state of Califonia also). Go figure a "socialist" can think economics?
