Lateral move? The Cubs job is widely considered the best job in baseball and every GM would be interested and he fits the mold to a T the the Ricketts want.

the cubs are an attractive big market team no doubt..but best job in baseball?
LOLwut?
that is what Ken Rosenthal is saying
I don't see the Yankees or Red Sox GMs leaving anytime soon. I think it's the best available job now.
thing is, he didnt say available..he just said best job...
best job available sounds a little less ridiculous..
cubs GM spot is surely an attractive job with the big market...if we were a little more successful on the diamond itd be nearly impossible for a GM to resist
i'd have to look at some of the other personnel spots available on other teams..

The argument I would make for it being the best job, is that if you win here with the Cubs, especially in Wrigley, the Cubs fans will glorify the new GM for life.
Phillies, Red Sox, Yankees, Rangers, Giants, even Dodgers fans expect their teams to win every year.
The Cubs fans would celebrate the 1 title forever.
I would think it'd take multiple titles as well to make fans demand contenders every year.maybe so...but after a while....if the cubs are winning for a long period(which would be awesome)...i feel that fans may become accustomed to winning year in and year out(especially because chicago is a big market)..and pressure would mount
though i cant be sure..and it'd probably have to be a decent stretch of winning
Listen to this he thinks every GM would be interested

again he talks about how it is the best job in baseball

I agree with him if a GM comes to chicago and wins a WS he becomes a legend.
except its probably harder to win a WS with the cubs than say the phils, sox,or yankees
atleast in the current circumstances
not to mention even with the cubs the GM is definitely not void of criticism if he makes some questionable moves(think hendry)
do i think the cubs gm is a top 10 job(top 5 arguably) in baseball?
ya but i dont think its the best
but the meatballs will argue that their is a line of GMs who want to be "the one who breaks the streak"
yankees/red sox are the best jobs by far.

Not really think about Boston before Theo took over it was pretty much the same as the Cubs. Theo is now a legend now for breaking Boston streak and propelled Boston into the spot they are today. The Cubs job at worst is 3rd best in baseball. 1st If you want money to spend and totally rebuild from top to bottom which a lot of GMs want to do.
I don't think it's rather meatball-ish to think that there are GM's who would love the opportunity to run the Cubs. It's a marquee franchise, with one of the largest fanbases in baseball, in a great city, & bringing a championship would make them forever live in infamy. It's definitely an intriguing selling point for any potential GM.
It may not be the greatest job in baseball but it's top 5 I would say.

ya ok...that doesnt mean the boston job isnt better right now
btw we havent necessarily assessed...3rd best job overall in baseball? what about managers? presidents? etc.
i'd arguably take the san fran giants,la angels, and a maybe a couple of others along with boston and ny(add philly so thats 5)
LA Angels really? Boston and NY I understand but the others not so much. But there is talk Cashman wants to leave NY for the Cubs so really who knows? I guess beauty is in the eye of the beholder.
