Try to remember this after my little spiel. Anywhere you work you are nothing more than a number. Numbers are added and subtracted everyday. Are you an addition or a subtraction to the number? It's what companies look at for their bottom line are you making them money or are you losing them money? Are you that good at your job that you believe you are making more money for them than what they pay you? Your wrong. But if you believe your right why is it that you are working for them and not them working for you? Think about this in your life. And as much as you may have been swayed to hate rich people they are the ones who employ you. Ever work for a poor person? Company owners are not stupid and if you are a great employee they will lend you an ear, tell them what is good and what is bad they do listen as this is their livelyhood and depend on their employees for their success.

You are not trying to poach good employees from a bad company, you are trying to build a future with a good company who actually cares about building their business with reliable people. And if you are reliable they know it...........it's why they ask YOU if you can bring in more people such as yourself. Never sell yourself short and never be too big on yourself(well maybe a little bit) but if a new company asks for your advise or references .....your fucking good and they want more people like you to build their company around.

Creature,

I don't hate rich people and you are an asshole for putting words into my mouth.

The fact is though, that I am an addition to this company. The people I have helped to bring in (or poached) have been great. My work has spoken for itself in the form of over 20% pay increase from when I started less than 3 years ago, and the praise, hell outright ass kissing I get from my "superiors".

As far as your second paragraph, you are correct. I am trying to help my employers make more $ by hiring known skilled badasses. I am one myself, just ask me. Do you think I would say that someone knows more than me in my line of work if they didn't?

You can take your "has a poor person ever given you a job ?" talking point and cram it up your ass.

No purple needed there.

I don't know what kind of work you do, but poor people don't buy shit from me or the company that I work for. But I do know that you are aware that poor people do buy shit and create demand for some thing even if they are not buying $60k+ items from my company.

And in a roundabout way I am helping the poor in my job. I am making equipment CTA buys from us to maintain and repair their buses and trains.

So Creature, you in manufacturing , CNC shop business?

If not, maybe you could just shut the **** up on what is good for me and my job. I think I might have a better handle on that than you.

I have no CNC experience. The closest I get to that is I have seen CNC machines before. They look neat.

I did grind propeller blades in my past job. Had to be in a tolerance of .001 of an inch. Most blades were ok. Some sucked ass.

That's some tight tolerance. Way tighter than anything I am doing, but I am not grinding either.

You do have grinding experience though. Ever apply to work for CAT? I ran grinders for them years ago. I learned a lot working there but later and more involved in my career I found that that experience got my foot in the CNC door and onto really learning some stuff. I also met some really good people there that know their shit, like my current boss. Machining work in this area is probably around 70% or more for CAT. I am finally out from under that umbrella though. CAT buys stuff from us now.

I hadn't thought about CAT. I always hear and see bad thing about them though. I knew someone that worked for them and she got just royally fucked over. I shouldn't base my experience off of one or two stories, but that place scares me.

I'm 50/50 on CAT. The UAW contract at the time was no friend of mine either.

I know some really lazy, stupid people from there that shot right on up. It seemed to me, the best way to get moved up was to dick around with stuff you shouldn't, wreck tens of thousands of dollars worth of tooling, then you get pulled off the floor into supervisor role. I did know at least two that did get moved up based on their smarts.

I also know some really hard working, knowledgeable people from there too.

Some got fucked over (like me), some had it made, others left on their own.

I didn't really get fucked over. At the time, yes. But it only lead to better things later down the road. (like now)

Yeah, I get that. It may be something that happens to you right no that is horrible but it is for the better. I am just looking for stability right now. Not just job, but in life. I don't know if I could trust CAT to help provide that.

Told everybody here I was a truck driver for 26 years and hauled a hell of a lot of shit. Funny thing is I learned from the companies I picked up from or delivered to. YES EVEN CAT. Make any brass parts? Ever wonder where that brass came from? I've hauled brass ingots to many states and many different companies. Brought many a transmissions into Melrose park for Ford. I've hauled for M&M Mars,Nestle,Kraft,Sara Lee,Ford ,Chrysler,GM,Sony,Wal-mart and on and on. The time waiting to get loaded and unloaded I would spend time with employees learning what they made and what they thought about their company. It wasn't just employees but also management(learn both sides) and if it will make you feel better about helping poor people I also made 3 trips to New Orleans from Chicago to bring bottled water there from Hinkley Springs after Katrina.

And P.S in the first paragraph I was not attacking you per say but after re-reading it I suppose it looks that way but it was meant to be general. The second paragraph was directed at you. Sorry for the misunderstanding although I still believe that poor people do not own businesses therefor nobody ever works for one but a lot of businesses made a rich man poor.

That's fine Creature. I was pretty sure you weren't directing it exactly at me, that's why I put that part in purple.

Nope, never worked with brass. I appreciate your work though and truckers/transport workers in general. Glad you spent your down time learning. You probably did that for similar reasons as me when I made it a point to befriend the smartest people in any shop I've worked in.

We can also say that a lot of people got rich off the backs and $ of the poor. Poor people do buy stiff, and most of them do actually work, though for shit wages, helping make a few even "richer".

Back to CAT....

Were you one of the teamster drivers driving across the lines in 94-95?

Either way, always drive safe Creature, and thanks for a response to my response to you.

94-95 I was driving for Coca-Cola left in 2000 when Marvin Herb was in negotiations with Atlanta to sell the bottliing rights back. Most don't know that Coca-Cola in the Chicagoland area was privately owned and it was a great job with Marvin but no way was I going to deal with the fools in Atlanta and I have no regrets leaving. It was pretty much regional 8 states after that and when my son was 14-15 did 2 years over the road so in the summer I could show him most of the US. Fun times and we got to bond in that time and the wife had peace, quiet and a few less grey hairs. He loved bringing Coors back from Colorodo thought the plant was awesome and learned that it really does leave cold and arrives at Millers cold. Has a complete different taste when you can get it like that.

Also I know that everybody rich and poor fuel the economy but does anybody look at our government as a culprit to souring the economy? When they keep spending they keep raising taxes which gives people less to spend. If they had those few extra dollars just think what it would do for the economy. Banks are a whole other story and I don't have enough Jack for them. They screwed up which cost millions of homeowners to lose the equity in their homes....so no loans for people to do remodels which would be dirt cheap to do now and would also get a shit load of contractors back to work. OK enough ranting...................LET'S GO HAWKS !!!!!!

Thanks Creature! Let's go Hawks!

Had another guy come in from old job to get an app yesterday. I don't know him, but word must be getting around about us.

Work is narrowing down their choices of what to get me to work with.

I have a spreadsheet with our choices on it.

Ranging from $180k-$530k before options and add-ons.

I might get sent up to suburbs for a week or two for training, depending on who we buy from.

One place wants the sale bad and is extending training offer to free training at their tech center (Schaumburg I think) for as many people as we want for 3 years. That is an amazing offer.

Now off to do more research so I can give my most informed opinion to our socialist European overlords while they are in town for the week.

I've been working in the stone age for so long, I've got such a hard on for all this new tech shit I'm just getting overview of online tonight.

Been looking over the spreadsheet on all the stats and such on our choices for new machine. It would be fun to learn a different controller and get to go on a training trip but I'm actually leaning to the low end price wise on our options.

My 2nd shift guy and myself both have experience with the brand of machine.

They are solid quality machines. They now have updated controllers that are basically the same, just with some add ons. I forgot how much I love that controller, especially the display. Everything I need or want to see is one the same screen, no need to switch display modes back and forth.

Our familiarity is a big bonus in my view since there will be less of a learning curve when getting this thing up and running initially.

I'm looking at $180k plus about $30-60k worth of add ons.

I never had any of the cool bells and whistles on any of the others that I have ran.

Like this little badass:

My clients pay my company for my services more than my company pays me, so yes, my company makes money off of me, so I don't even need to question that, So no, I am not wrong.

Secondly, that second part makes no damn sense. Why would a multinational company that has existed since before I was born work for me, just because I make them money? Thats the friggin model of contract consulting. They sell us for more than they pay us, its how they make money. The only way im not making them money is when I am not staffed, which is rarely ever longer than a week or 2 any given year.

Well, tomorrow I supposedly get the word on which machine I am getting.

Order was ready to go in this morning for machine at $180k base price, ~$280k with options and add ons.

Then got sweet counter offer on a $400k machine with sellers willing to match the price down to the $280k.

The more expensive one costs so much for a reason. It is heavy duty shit. I like Haas machines and like that they are US made (one of our main selling points is we are made in US for our NA customers), but a Haas vs Okuma for the same price?

Not even a fucking question worth thinking about.

Sure hope mgmt sees where I am coming from.

Well if they walk the walk, they will stick with the American product. I do understand the draw of the fancier machine though. Its a tough decision surely.

Oh no, it not a question of US made.

We are a European company making products here for this market.

The offer here is almost unreal.

It's like getting a Lexus for the price of a low/mid range Chevy.

Ohhhhhhh, I see.

It is a hell of an offer. Will they go back to the original company an tell them about the match?

I don't know. I would guess they would since there were counter offers.

I want the heavy duty shit so I know it will last. I can get all our work setup on it and then hand it off to underlings when I am machine shop supervisor/QC a bit down the road.
