My friend was supposed to come to my town to play disc golf (and hear me pitch job to him) yesterday.

He didn't show up,never heard from him.

So a bit ago I just sent him text and laid it out.

He says he's not sure what he wants to do right now, but says we will get together this week and have serious talk.

YES!!!!

My old CNC badass friend says he will call and chat with my boss tomorrow and hear what he has to say. He knows he can ask me any questions too if he wants them from a different perspective.

I would even consider giving up my cushy day shift job and going to cushy 2nd shift job though that would leave me with less time for disc golf and general life.

That is a lot to give up, I really want him to work with me to even consider it.

I am set either way. If I don't get this guy, we are going to re-hire my 2nd shift kid right out of jail (didn't pay his fines for DUI or something).

My jailbird kid is great and I like him a lot, but the other guy is better for the whole team and company.

Shit, the guy is better than I am, and I never say that about my work unless it is true beyond any doubt.

More add-ons getting installed on my beautiful yet idle Japanese baby beast, but I get to start training on her late in the week I think.

Time to set the rock & roll/audiobook machine aside for a bit and concentrate on some wizardry with this awesome machine and the good people I have to teach it to later.

Oh, I found out what the 6 mysterious black nozzles are for.

They can blow compressed air OR coolant at up to 1000 Psi.

I got to see coolant at 500Psi.

Does the phrase "holy shit!!!" ring a bell?

The big box on wheels with the hoses is the 70 gallon high pressure coolant system.

The two main coolant tanks hold ~120 gallons each.

Well, my old friend didn't take the job.
As far as I know, he didn't even call and talk to my boss.
On the super kick ass awesome news side.
My 2nd shift main guy is out of jail, getting rehired and starting back at work Monday.
We still haven't run any parts on our new machine, so we are both getting in on the ground floor more or less, I won't have to show him much.

I saved this guy and my other 2nd shift guy from a horrid fate working for the same dirt farmer assholes that I used to work for.
Turns out that the ex-supervisor of my other 2nd shift guy shit-talked him when he quit. Said he wouldn't last a month here, and that we bought this horrid hunk of shit machine from them that he would be running.
**** him. Both of these guys do great work and I could get them falling down drunk and still take either one over asshole on his best day.
I think I'm gonna get a picture of my 2 guys and our Japanese baby beast to send him with some rather unkind, yet honest words in a card.
I absolutely despise that piece of shit.

Holy shit!

I got these tables and vises that are fucking badass.

The vises as in pic are set side by side in pairs to hold bigger part.

Instead of running one part really slow like my old machine, this is gonna run 3 really fucking fast.

While it runs, I will be unloading and loading a mirror image of fresh parts.

Program gets done, goes into subprogram that changes tables and flips the program 180º.

That is pretty kick ass, but here is where it really starts to get good.

All of those red circles in that pic are rubber plugs to keep chips and stuff out of any hole that is not being used, on the tables, on the vises, everything.

For smaller parts, the vises quickly convert into dual jaw setups where I can load 2 parts in each vise.

That gives me 12 to run while 12 go thru load/unload cycle.

All of those little red plugs cover holes for dowel pin stops, clamps for some jobs, or locating my vises to keep chips out to make next setup quicker.

Drop a vise or dowel pin into a spot and it is within .0001 inches over and over and over again.

Yeah, .0001", no shit, ran the indicator myself, over 7 feet those vises all lined up within .0001"

I don't have any dowel pins yet for stops, or the tool to run that job, and actually even waiting on a replacement for missing part for my last vise.

Regardless, big boss is making video of this program running, without actually accomplishing anything due to lack of tooling, tomorrow.

Just something to show our European Socialist Overlords on his trip to The Enslaved Socialist Republic of Europe next week.

Funny thing is, you can hardly see shit through the windows in the doors anyway, and I'm gonna run high pressure mega coolant blast the whole time, so it will look something like a carwash.

Anybody that knows me and knows what I do, knows I am a badass. That has been settled for years.

But NOW, oh shit, this is my time to fucking SHINE (on you crazy diamond)!

Damn! I fucked up and moved the decimal point.

I meant "only" .001", not .0001".

My bad. Silly me.

.001" is still pretty good considering my hole location tolerances is mainly +/- .060", sometimes, GASP!!! .005".

Spent my last few days split between setting up old junk machine for work for my 2nd shift kid, and putting wonderful, beautiful, insanely expensive tooling together.

She is ready to go, vises and parts loaded up, tooling in and set off for heights, program written.

...

But the program is fucked up and alarms machine out.

Grr!

I didn't write it, I swear! Silly Japanese G&M codes is the issue.

Hopefully boss has errors fixed in the morning and I get to show what this ***** can do.

Gotta get that taken care of. Now, as much as I love my new baby, I gotta keep my 2nd shift kid set up and ready to bail at any minute.

He is gonna be a dad any day now. As good as my uppers have always been to me, the only honorable thing to do is hook the kid up with as much gravy work as I can swing while I play with fun, high tech shit..

I gotta give back nice like my uppers have done for me.

(on 2nd shift 2011 I got free half days to watch Hawks fight off VAN, almost)

New baby cuts steel tomorrow!

All hail my Euro Socialist Overlords!

Quite fun (and nerve racking) to play with $600k worth of badness.

Here's is my baby:

This has been awesome working with this badass.

Jobs on old CNC that a kick as day would be 24 parts, I can get 12 done every hour, with much less work.

To get really silly, a couple jobs I had on multi-step manual work would take 3 or 4 days to finish 30 parts, I have going at about 50 parts per hour for the first run before I even crank it.

I will get my raise, but I have a checklist 1st.

It was to get my underlings raises. They did.

But now, I think I may just be able to squeak in a spot for my old CNC badass buddy to be our programmer/tooling guy. The stuff my boss gets pulled away from, and I am too busy setting up and running my baby to do.

If I play it right and it works out I can get one of my best friends and most respected machinists I know a super gravy job that he would be great at for me and my droogs, for himself, and for our bosses (and Euro Socialist Overlords)

My main poaching target is prime game now. Been out of work long enough where it is boring now. As I was telling some story about how awesome my job is, his gf said, "See!? You should go work with Jam! That would be awesome!"

Oh yes it would be. We can be an unstoppable force that even moves the immovable object if I can work out a spot for him & we can combine our awesome skills.

I am set, but there is much potential for this to get even better.

Woo hoo!

It is in the works!

I gave my boss my friend's application this morning. He read it, mouthed "**** me!", and handed it to his boss. He read it and said, "Very impressive"

My boss told me, "Perfect timing, there's been talk of hiring a programmer.". He also said, "**** you for bringing in my replacement!"

It seems like my uppers want to hire him to split duties with or take over duties of my boss. Boss's job is ok, he maybe move to run QC (which we don't have other than teamwork)

On the other side, my friend really wants to get back to work. His old shitty job wants him back, and they will likely pay him more. I get the sense that he doesn't really want to go back there, and money isn't everything.

Working with me is quite an incentive as is it seems. My friend has said things like "meeting of minds", "perhaps reunion is inevitable?"

On top of that, our Euro Socialist Overlords actually treat us like human beings.

I think he would much rather work for us. I think it is going to happen.

HO-LEE-SHIT!

My bosses worship me as their god!

Everything is still on track but on hold for now due to personal tragedy.

My friend's son had a horrible accident Sunday and we almost lost him.

Broken skull, emergency brain sugery.

I've never been so scared in my life.

He came through okay, is breathing on his own, and is doing much better than the doctors expected.

I love that kid! He is a smart young man that gives me hope for the younger generation.

He was flown off to neuro trauma unit an hour and a half away and I'm on long day overtime and out of vacation until March.

Don't know how much "out of the woods" he may be just yet, but everyone seems optimistic.

I'm okay but exhausted (and even sick feeling) after running on 36 hour adrenaline rush.

Boss said he wants to call my friend in for interview next week, but will have me clear it 1st and see if family issues are still more pressing.

I really love working for these guys. Is it any wonder I would want one of the best guys I've ever worked with in on this?

Hug your friends and family, and tell them how much you love them.

They could be on the brink or gone in an instant.

Kid is home now and doing great!

Really sore but looks like he will be ok and himself.

Now back to my mission in the morning now that my worst fears have been allayed.

I think I am going to be handing off the keys to my beautiful Japanese beast and going back to run old hunk of shit machine.

Maybe starting next week.

My underling that runs it now has bullshitted his way into a different department.

It comes down to tomorrow.

My dear old friend has an interview with us, I have the honor of introducing him to our machine shop people when he gets to us.

The plan is to hire him to basically do my job, only better, and teach my boss stuff along the way.

I will be in the loop of course, and old dirty ***** machine loves me and misses me anyway.

And I can listen to books and such almost every day too!

My 2nd shift under wants to stay on 2nd, I really didn't want to go (back) to 2nd.

Jam = team player = everyone happy!

I've done lots of good work for this company and they have treated me well.(and paid me well enough)

If I can help bring this guy in, it could be the best thing I've done for an individual and for employers (aka, Euro Socialist Overlords)

I want this!

Others that know jack shit about machining will think I got demoted, when in fact, I stepped up.

None of those fucks are even close to our level of "know your shit", and swearing, can't forget swearing.
