Have You Known Someone Who Has Commit Suicide?

The few people who know (outside of family) all pretty much echoed some things you guys have said, "We would have never thought you would do something like that." Which I would always respond, "That's because I never wanted you to know." Which I think in a majority of the cases is probably correct, especially for men. Depression is a motherfucker, and no one wants to admit they have it, lest you be labeled negatively.

depression is a mf'er. i know a few people who struggle with depression. And each one of them it took a lot for them to even feel comfortable to tell the ones they love. Each person who has confided with me about their depression I have told them that I will always be there for them and do whatever they need to get them in a good place, but they need to seek a professional and talk with them.

Absolutely all of this. I've known several people who admitted to having depression at one point or another where unless you really really knew them, you never would've guessed because they did a good job of hiding it to the general public.

I dont know how close they were to you but did it make you angry?

Not really. More sad than anything. Always left wondering if you could have done something. I was only really close to one of them, but had drifted apart over a couple of years because life.

This is a good point. The first person I confided in was one of the social workers at the school I (at the time) taught at. He gave me a list of 8 or so people to talk with, but gave me the advice of going to 2 or 3 people first, before you settle on the one you want to work with. You don't want to just pick someone, and five months down the road you can't interact with the person. At that point you're just wasting your money and time. In my mind, I had to think of it as a bunch of blind dates to make sense out of it.

for seriousness, I have known several people to off themselves. It is a very sad thing. And I am glad you didn't commit to the bit Gus.

On the same day, many years ago, a man I worked for and a girl I knew (not well) from the other HS in town, both committed suicide.

The two were totally unrelated- just coincidentally on the same day. The girl was a close friend of my first cousin.

In a small town, the two hitting on the same day was quite a stunner.

Others I am aware of were not people I knew directly - the nephew of a close friend about 15 years ago was one I recall.

High school buddy shot himself our junior year over Xmas break.

A college friend of mine had me over one day and wanted to give me some of his stuff. I didn't want it, but he insisted. The next day, he pulled over on a secluded road and shot himself in the head with his father's gun. At the time I had no clue he do something like that. It still haunts me. His parents were devastated.

That would be my worst nightmare having one of my own children commit suicide. I know if that happened i would welcome death upon myself. Not by suicide but by giving up on life.
I could not live with that .

Fraternity brother and room mate for 2 years, in each other’s weddings, did everything together, killed himself 12 years ago. Another frat brother killed himself, too, maybe 20 years ago. Another frat brother & room mate father and brother (knew brother not father) also killed themselves. Won’t go into why on any. Suicide leaves a horrible scar on those who survive. I will never get over the first example’s death. You would think you would see these things coming but often you don’t.

My uncle committed suicide

He was an odd one. Pretty much alienated everyone around him until he was all alone and couldn’t take that. My mom said he was normal and actually a good athlete and everything went downhill when he was hit by a car when he was riding his bike.

Had one of my best friends commit suicide less than 6 months ago. Been suicidal myself until I got serious help. Old roommate hung himself, another friend hung himself that lived next door in college, list goes on and on. It's bad out there.
