As I stated...he's clearly misunderstood by me and these things are just made up by people that want to keep the poor guy down.
Appearantly, he was swatting a spider on Komisarek's ankle. Was trying to fix a strap on the back of Thomas' helmet. Merely trying to get a piece of tape off of Witt's jersey using his stick....and Smid had mustard on his chin he was wiping off.
And nothing wrong with his slur against Gautier or Laraque. I mean...he is french canadian and Laraque is african american.
Avery said Gauthier was "typical of most French guys in our league with a visor on." He went on to say visor-wearing French Canadians "don't back anything up."
The league issued a statement calling Avery's comments "insensitive and inappropriate" and threatening discipline for "similar misconduct."
"It's racism," Edmonton's Marc-Andre Bergeron told the Edmonton Sun . "It doesn't matter if it's about French or black or Chinese, you have to respect everyone."
Avery apologized for his comments, but that will not be the end of it.
"If he's looking for a French guy who will back it up, I'm his guy," Colorado's Ian Laperriere , a former teammate of Avery, told the Rocky Mountain News . "Print it. I'll be more than happy to back it up.
and ....
Avery and Laraque have a history. In 2006 when Laraque was playing in Edmonton, he accused Avery of using a racial epithet during a game. The NHL looked into the incident, but no action was taken against Avery.
"I knew nothing was going to happen because there was no evidence; nobody heard it," Laraque said.
"It was my word against his, even though everyone believed me. They just said: 'With time, justice will be served.' They knew down the line something would happen and they could catch up with everything that happened (before) and make him pay for it."
