Here's a fun one sure to stir the pot: Tattoos. Like them or no?

I could care less either way. I have no tattoos, but my first one will be the "C" with the tomahawks crossing it with Stanley cup dates under it.

As far as the studies are concerned, it's not a huge deal breaker for me.

There is no doubt that in some career choices, visible tattoos will make seeking gainful employment difficult if not impossible. You may not like it or think it's bullshit but its a fact.

Of course it's a fact, but it really has nothing to do with the individual with the tats at all. It happens because of the preconceived notions of those running shit. Like those that jax stated. Somehow people with tats make poor choices in life, and are sluts. It is just as ignorant and prejudice as racism, in my opinion.

I don't know about that. Would depend on the tattoo. Prison tatts, racist/hateful/offensive tatts, and home ball point pen ink tattoos are examples of poor decison making IMO.

Another example of poor decison making from personal expierence; An uncontrolled/poorly controlled diabetic with circulation problems and a history of recurrent boils (already had toes amputated) who got a piercing. Lied to the "artist" about their health to get it. Ended up in the ICU with sepsis, and was lucky to survive it. Did I mention your tax dollars are paying for the medicaid/medicare that paid those healthcare bills?

I guess you're not familiar with the saying, never judge a book by it's cover?

Just curious what studies actually show what you stated. I'd LOVE to see those studies. Chances are, they are 100% bullshit.

How do tattoos on the hands and legs show you that people make poor decisions in life and don't look into the future for possible consequences? How can you possibly come to a determination like that?

Personally, tats don't bother me in the least. A couple well placed tats on a woman are extremely hot.

Congratulations, you are the second person to challenge this. I'm not here to do your research for you guys, you want the proof, look it up, it is out there.

Better yet, since you are so convinced it is bullshit and you want to do internet research all day, why don't you show me the studies that show the ones I read are bullshit?

lol.... Well obviously those are different, aren't they? And in those cases you aren't talking about their tats, as much as you are talking about the person who has the tats... In that case, you're choosing not to hire somebody, not because they have tats, but because they're a felon, a racist, or a fucking idiot. Makes sense to me.

What does that have to do with tats? You do realize there are fucking idiots in all genres of people, right?

I guess black people have poor decision making skills, compared to others, because Michael Vick went to jail for dog fighting?

Burden of proof isn't on me, it's on you. You're the one making the statement that "studies have shown". You also realize that you can find "studies that show" a lot of things that aren't necessarily true, right?

For the record, I don't have a single tattoo on my body, nor does my wife, or children. I just think your generalizations are ignorant and uneducated. Judging somebody by their body markings is no more trivial or ignorant than judging somebody by the color of their skin.

Because "poor choices" is so vague. What some may consider a poor choice, that person or others may not. And women with tattoos are more sexually active? Even if that's true, who cares? Why is that being seen as a negative? That's why people are calling bullshit on that stuff. It's "old man" thinking.

You said we shouldn't judge people based on any type of tattoo and I assumed other body modification. I just gave examples of when I or others might do so. Pretty simple really.

I personally find a woman that is more sexually active refreshing. Most women have a lot of the same desires and thoughts that men do. They just tend not to act on them, because of the way our society views those that do. A man that hooks up with a lot of chicks is looked up to, but a woman that does the same with men, is a whore.

I actually never said that. I said it's ignorant to make assumptions and judgements about somebody JUST because they have a tattoo. I never said it's ignorant to judge somebody by WHAT their tattoo says, or expresses. Two totally different things.

Perfect example: "I think that black teenager over there is a gangbanging thug." or "I think that black teenager over there, sporting Crip colors and flashing gang signs, is a gangbanging thug."

Generalizing is ignorance.

I don't have any tattoo's, but pretty much all of my friends do, female and male as the kind of crowd I've hung out with most of my life always seemed to be of the punk rocker variety. My ears were pierced at one time (they still are, I just dont wear anything in them) and I used to sport hair that ran the colors of the rainbow, I've become more conservative in my appearance as I've gotten older. Although casually I still tend to wear cargo pants/shorts and skate shoes hoodies and I'll still wear band shirts and stuff. But the days of sporting a wacked out blue spike are over (that and my ever receding hair wouldnt allow me too).

I've just never had a desire to get a tattoo myself.

and I believe Jax asked the significance of the "star" its generally a rockabilly symbol but I see plenty of girls getting them these days that probably dont even know that musical genre.

One of my buddies has a ton of tattoo's his first tattoo was a strait edge tattoo on his wrist. Considering he started drinking he had it converted ironically enough into a liquor bottle.

Yeah I agree. So when Jax makes it a point to show the "fact" that women who have tattoos are more sexually active going along with the other negative"fact" that tattooed people making poor choices, it helps you to discover who exactly is taking part in that ignorant, judgmental bullshit. Prone to bad choices and she's more sexually active? Holy shit, double whammy there.

I actually would have guessed that you had a tat that was military or Roman related, nothing flashy, just something of personal significance.

It's hard to challenge a study when we don't know what it is or how it originated.

I'm actually interested in knowing what studies you read. It helps with the OP that you created.

With tattoos being so common, it's sort of difficult to put an assessment on the owner of that tattoo.

Until I read Jako's post, I really never knew the use of putting one's name on their own body (the other could be pride in a family name).

That guy has prison tattoos. He's at risk for HIV, hepatitis B and Hepatitis C. Not so stupid. People judge things on appearance all day long every day.

I have no tats and have never thought of it. No one in my family has them and I guess I never felt the need to get one.

Judging somebody JUST because they have tattoos, without knowing what it is, or the significance of the tattoo, IS stupid. Along with ignorant and judgmental.

You're still missing the point here, and I'm not sure how... Saying "That guy has tattoos" is like saying "that guy is black". Saying "that guy has PRISON tattoos" is like saying "that guy is black, and is throwing up gang signs, with a glock under his shirt".
