Rice is the most popular food in the world. It doesn't make it the best food in the world.

"best" depends on what you want. I of course would watch the nfl and NBA over a soccer game but I can see why soccer is a popular sport

A lot of my brit friends agree that soccer has become unbearable to watch because of reffing. Lets hope the nfl doesnt follow suit.

Soccer is the fastest growing sport in the US. America is finally joining the rest of the world instead of standing in the corner like the overgrown little brother with a bad temper. Outside of rednecks, talk to most younger people and they're mostly into soccer.
To be honest, I haven't noticed many soccer fans in my area. Maybe a few who are illegal immigrants. Granted, there are a lot of those in the US.

Soccer's ok for kids to play and what not but as a spectator sport it's more boring than baseball.

Three things that make soccer unwatchable for me:

1) The vast amount of standing around. If the game was played more aggressively it could take on a pace more like hockey or lacrosse which would make it much more interesting to watch.

2) The diving/crying/faking injury. Basketball is bad enough in this facet, but some soccer players just take it to a new level with the faking of getting punched/headbutted/etc. and the lying on the ground grabbing [insert body part] even though they were neither touched nor injured themselves. It's just such a putoff to see a guy who's getting paid a fortune rolling around on the ground like he just got kneecapped by a 9-iron and the closest opposing player was 5 feet away...then a penalty ensues.

3) When they do lose their shit and start doing dirty crap. This is not a full contact sport to begin with. I can understand football, hockey, rugby, and lacrosse players getting pissed at a bad hit or post-whistle contact or whatnot, but these guys are hardly allowed to touch each other yet end up resorting to some of the biggest cheapshots this side of a Suh tantrum.

I was in a hotel bar in Freiburg im Breisgau during the Bundesliga championship game last year; and even in that environment I just couldn't get into it any more than just tossing up a casual glance.

Yet another reason to close the gates on the illegal aliens sneaking into the US.

Sorry old chap, but I'm afraid that the US is becoming more culturally integrated with the rest of the world, not less.

It's a good thing too. Stop being such an old scgrooge and learn to embrace the love

We'll just have to agree to disagree and settle on you being wrong.

I really haven't seen this big surge of popularity in this "sport" here in the US. I'm old enough to remember a surge in popularity when Pele came to town but nothing like that since. It is terribly boring though. I could never get into it. Maybe bring some rugby over here. I think I could like that.
