i like it, the million fan march. begone fowl ownership!
Not looking at the list, but what you seem to be saying is that it isn't worth signing a 32 year old because they could only help you win championships for a couple of years, as opposed to not getting any help to win a single championship. Perhaps I've misinterpreted your position.
Wow, you're naive.
No , I just choose not to stand on a ledge because a baseball team that has basically sucked for the majority of the past 100 yrs. has their new owners and magement decide their gonna suck for a couple more yrs. to run things their way..
Im gonna at the very least allow epstein and hoyer fulfill their contract and see where the team at then before I judge..

It's not really standing on a ledge. It's being honest about what you see. You, on the other hand, are putting your head in the sand. Ricketts is playing you as a fool.
no one got their head in the sand, it doesn't take a rocket scientist to know their a bad team, weve known this since march..
but guys like you and a couple others feel the need to stand on a ledge everyday crying and complaining about it...
seriously what is there that needs to be seen that you think most on here aren't seeing ?
Ricketts lowered payroll ? saw that
no big FA signed ? saw that
more emphasis on minor league then majors ? saw that
the plan is to have majority of roster home grown and young ? saw that
there really nothing new going on now that surprising and we haven't known about it the last 2 years..
so, don't understand the point behind complaining about the same garbage everyday ..
Ricketts is Cheap and Epstein sucks..LOL
yea rickets is cheap today with his payroll, mainly because of the Zell deal.. cant say he been cheap with building up everything else that involves the team..
and as much as you want to play future teller, we have no idea what payroll will look like in future..
Epstein sucks.. yea the major league team has been awful, and there been some questionable additions but not much you can do when your owner has you lower payroll by 40+ mil in just 2 off seasons.. so yea you expect that team to suck.. but you have to give him some credit for what he been able to do with the farm system in 2 off seasons and I think he deserves the benefit of doubt for at least til the remainder of his contract to see where the team is at then.
so, only ones acting a fool are guys like you who waste time on message boards to complain about things that everyone already knows about..

By the way, I forgot to mention another item of note. According to Crane Kenney, apparently WGN is dropping the Cubs. People obviously aren't even watching the Cubs on TV. They've become irrelevant. If people don't watch, advertisers won't want to pay top dollar for ad time. It's kind of pathetic . WGN is a big reason that the Cubs have such a broad fan base. It's a big reason that the Cubs had a national following. But the Ricketts killed that.

One of the most ridiculous comments made so far. And trust me, that's an accomplishment on this board.
Can you please explain what the Zell deal has to do with this?? The Rickets had the most profitable team in baseball last year. They're definitely not cash strapped. In fact some of their other businesses are more profitable as well due to the Cubs. They're operating well within the black. He's being cheap because they're running the team like a business.
And by that, I mean they are not just trying to be profitable - they are trying to MAXAMIZE profits.
More, the team is now worth an estimated $1.2 billion - $300 million more than when they bought the team. Let's just think about that. The team is now worth 34% more than when they bought it in 2009. How many of you have made an investment that has netted you 34% in valuation + about 12% in dividends (net revenues) in 5 years?
The Rickets have (if the numbers reported are correct) profited almost $420 million just on the Cubs product.
Now add in the profits with the run-off in their other businesses.
Now add in the rooftop deal.
And let's not forget the big ass TV contract (estimated to be in the 7 to 10 billion range) in the works.
Yes, they forked out $900 million to buy the team. But they've made maybe ~$450 to 500 million on that trade so far.
Theo was a strategic move. The guy can talk... And sheep follow and believe. He's your pacifier... You accept the worst stretch of losing in team history because he told you to.
People need to look past the guy pulling out his empty pockets telling you he's broke and we can't win if don't get a jumbo-tron and realize that you've been duped.
Even adding $50 million to player payroll this year could have made us a contender and still not shit-canned the long-term farm-building strategy that you all believe in - and they still would be up at least at least $400 million on the trade.
And possibly more with fan support, beer sales, community support, tickets, valuation, playoff pay, etc..
In general, Cubs fans are the dumbest sports fans in the world. Not all of us, but enough for him to laugh at you.
It has more to do with WGN-America becoming a cable broadcast channel.
Appealing to Tradition is quite the fallacy in your argument. Tradition doesn't mean it's the right thing to do.
The worst stretch of losing in team history? 1980-83 and 1953-62 all had worse 4+ year stretches.
Has he said he is broke and can't pay for more for the big league team?
Yeah, let's spend 50 million this year and log jam our books for the next 5. We did that already and are still paying for Soriano.
If you don't support what they are doing, don't go to games. It's pretty simple.

.
In this case tradition and brand enhancement are intertwined. So because you want to believe some stupid truism like " Tradition doesn't mean it's the right thing to do", you're going to hitch yourself to the idea that the Cubs are better off being seen only in Chicago than in 70% of the country. Good luck with that.
I don't really care who gets to see the Cubs. I just want to win games.

or just buy in and get kicked in the nuts. sounds like fun.

1980-83?
What ass are you pulling this info from?
I hope not your own.
Please work through the math before spouting off...
Then come back and explain how that log jams our books. Because it doesn't. It helps makes the team a winner, while still making the Rickets profits - just not as much as they want.
We? You an owner?
You mean the Rickets are paying for him. And yet still netting an average of a hundred million / yr. Thanks to sheeple like you.
Did you not read the numbers?
By "what they are doing", I assume you're referring to tanking seasons and losing purposefully. You support that?
Not smart.
I don't go to games at Wrigley anymore. No reason for me to give Rickets my $. Gave up my season tickets (HAd 4) 2 years ago. But being a Cubs fan, I go and watch games - in Milwaukee.
