Event Horizon is really good.

Speaking of Sam Neill...
Event horizon is fantastic. I did NOT see that movie coming as creepy as it was. Scared the piss outta me.I also have night breed and prince of darkness too, just need to get a night to watch em!

Event Horizon was a great mix of sci-fi and horror with a really neat concept. Dark, dense atmosphere with really good casting.

Nightbreed was vastly underrated IMO. It was much more layered than the typical slasher film. David Cronenberg as 'Ol Buttonface was downright disturbing. They just released a new cut of the movie recently. More scenes and they re-recorded Doug Bradley's real voice for Dirk Lylesberg this time. Not sure why they dubbed in someone else initially. Read something about it a few months ago but can't find it now. And of course, Danny Elfman doing the soundtrack.

Prince of Darkness was one of those I took a long time to finally watch. Then I watched it every day for a week. Weird? You bet. But I really enjoyed the film while it lasted on Netflix.

I haven't seen it, but I've heard that Black Christmas (the original one from 1974, not the new one) is scarier than shit. The whole movie is up on youtube:

Is Lost Boys considered a horror film? That movie is awesome, but I never found it scary. I would think it was more of a thriller.

Night of the Living Dead

Evil Dead series (which seems more horror/comedy)

Shaun of the Dead (Horror/Comedy)

Amityville (first one)

Exorcist

House of 1000 Corpses

I just noticed the Nightbreed on Netflix says something about a director's cut...gonna have to check that out this week. I love Clive Barker's stuff and just re-read the book Nightbreed was based on (Cabal) last winter.

Totally agree, there's a lot of overlap with genres. Is it Sci-Fi? Horror? Suspense? John Carpenter's 'The Thing' could easily be considered suspense. I purposely omitted many of my favorites mostly to keep the list under 100 and because it was tough to classify them. Predator is another example. Action? Sci-Fi? Guys skinned and hanging from trees could qualify it for horror IMO.

Good to see all the nods to the Lost Boys. My sister got me in to see it for my birthday opening weekend. What a terrific and hip blend of laughs, blood, and music! One of the first two R rated films I was allowed to see. The other was Robocop. I suckered my dad into taking me. I guarantee you to this day he regrets it, if only for all the swearing and the scene where ED-209 blows that guys face off.

New one is coming out!!!

I know right? I need to get caught up on this series. Phantasm II just blew our damn mind when it came out. Good to see Angus Scrimm revising his role for another go around. Great guy. Really seems to enjoy his role as the Tall Man.

Have to say, loved the catchy music from The Exorcist and Halloween, but the Phantasm theme is right up there in eeriness.

I just read Cabal last winter for the first time. You know what? I had to return it to the library because I'm too cheap to pay my $1 overdue fee. Just realized The Last Illusion story was in it. Going to have to re-acquire this book soon...

Hmmmm....Methinks I'll be looking getting my hands on Lord of Illusions this week...

I was pretty young when I saw Amityville. Scared the shit out of me. Really like The Shining as well.

I haven't watched it in a long time, but I thought The Changeling, with George C Scott was a pretty decent flick. The wet, bouncing ball down the stairs freaked me out.
